    Vit C & Iron

    Hi all...

I'm a regular lifter, been going steady for about 6 months now. My doctor informs me that I am anemic, not enough iron, so he has prescribed iron supplements. I've been looking over my diet and I already get a lot of iron from the food I eat, but maybe it's not absorbing for some reason. I did some searching online and a lot of sites say that you need to eat vitamin C with iron in order for it to absorb.

Just wondering... do you have to eat vitamin C at the same time as iron every time, or is it that you just need to make sure you get the RDA of vit C in general? Could I eat some fruit in the morning and then eat an iron heavy meal in the afternoon? I'm just not clear on how the vit C thing works.

My B12 levels are normal, got that tested too. It's just my iron stores are low. So far the iron pills are kind of brutal on my gut. Not sure what else to do about it.

    TIA
