For captial punishment, why not just shoot them in back of the head? Just take a high caliber bullet and be done with it. Quick and easy if you use the right gun. Probably more humane for the convict as well.
'During a 13-minute span toward the start of the process, Smith "appeared to be struggling for breath and heaved and coughed and clenched his left fist," and his left eye appeared to be slightly open at times, AL.com reported. '
How is this better?

Same reason they alcohol swab before lethal injection
Apparently when killing someone ....we still have to be nice.
8th Prohibits excessive fines and excessive bail, as well as cruel and unusual punishment.
Would be cheaper for a bullet too.
I feel as well we should bring back public hangings....
Would be alot less criminals criminalling ...

A lot of stuff far more humane than lethal injection.
But the modern penal system is not about being humane. It's about money and modern day slavery. Otherwise Murder-1 convictions would be instant death. Why Insurance Does Not Make You Safe:

Exactly.
5 years.
No life no 40 years on death row.
5 years , cull the herd.
Amazing how many criminals are still alive for violent crimes in this country.
Especially ones who are caught on camera doing the crime.
I would bet everything i have if our jail system wasnt so catering to criminals there would be alot more fear before people acted like criminals.

The problem with that is it would be expensive due to the clean up process. You can't exactly just use a water hose on the ground to clean up the area.
Technically hanging would be clean, efficient, humane, and would be more likely to scare the hell out of people. Especially if its televised so people can see what happens to death row offenders. If you do the math right (And there is an art to it) the neck breaks cleanly on the drop causing an instant kill.
It doesn't deter crime because in general by the time someone gets put to death. Everyone in society has already forgotten about them EXCEPT the victim. It takes about 10-12 years to put someone to death. Once they are at most you'll get some small news article nobody reads. Lets assume we are 100% certain someone committed a crime. If you have a televised execution while the trial/incident is still fresh in everyone's mind it would be a lot more effective as a deterrent.
To be real though I'm perfectly comfortable with the death penalty purely as retribution. Even if it does 0 towards deterring future crimes.

Can you even read?
Why would the death penalty scare someone?
1. It rarely happens
2. you sit on death row appealing for 10 - 20 - 30 years while getting a roof over your head and food
3. You might get lucky and get a dumb ass president to pardon you....#notmypresident
4. you get an epic last meal
5. you die peacefully
Now on the other hand...
If death penalty occured like this..
1. guilty
2. 5 years of appeals or less depending on crime
3. Most violent televised death imaginable.
