This year the Olympia was missing current world #1 Kai Greene and multiple Olympia contender Dennis Wolf, competing in one show and one show only is not s true test of how good a bodybuilder one is especially if the top guys decided to go for other trophies AKA AC.
The answer to OPS question is no, they are the same, if Kai and Wolf entered the Euro one and they were beaten by Heath then this would be a greater thing than winning the standard Olympia missing the top guys.
To put this to extremes imagine if Phil Heath was the only competitor and Jason Genova the other competitor then the 1st and 2nd positions would not necessarily indicate WORLD CLASS.TEAM WOLF + TEAM KAI +TEAM CEDRIC + TEAM ROMGLE - TEAM RAMY - TEAM FAIR JUDGING

If I hold a contest called "Mr Olympia Bart" in my backyard and win that, will I equal Phil?
This thread sucks. We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.

This is a very valid point, if no top pros compete at the Arnold Ohio, will it still be a prestigious show compared to Arnold Europe ?
Nah, but if the IFBB, weider's organization, and AMI hold Bart's Olympia, then they can make that contest to whatever they please.Last edited by LimitBreak; 10-05-2016 at 11:38 AM.

I'm a bit surprised over the expansion of the Arnold and the Olympia to be honest. Brand dilution for sure. I guess the short term revenue of additional shows outweigh the long term impact on the brands.
And it should be a lot worse and more damaging to the Olympia brand than to the Arnold brand. The Arnold can probably get away with it pretty well, the Olympia not so much imo."that guy is like a damn unicorn" -Evan Centopani on Mamdouh Elsbiay

10-06-2016, 02:57 PM #15Dude, the reason they're doing this is all about money. Promoting bodybuilding in continental europe to sucker more consumers into the supplement industry.
When you win the Mr Olympia Boratstan (or whatever) you're winning...what, exactly? A title that didn't even exist a few years ago? And which might get discontinued at any time (as happened to the Masters Olympia)?
I hear FullROM's coming out of retirement. We'd better bring our A-game.We're dodging more ninjitsu attacks than Flex Wheeler. We're ducking more bullets than George Farah. We're facing more death than a kid leg pressing at Branch Warren's gym.

Sounds just like the Arnold classic. Everyone knows though the American one is the real deal though. Although regarding the Arnold Classics, you could make a case for the European one being the one that should set the benchmark; you have all the top dogs competing in it apart from the Olympia. The American Arnold usually only has a few top guys, but mostly a lot of near the top and middle of the line guys.

Yeah I'm very well aware of why they do it lol
My point is that I hope they've at least had the discussion over brand dilution and gone over this seriously beforehand. It's a real issue facing them in the future now. It might damage the company and industry more, in the long run (LESS $$$$), than it adds in value. I can only assume (hope) that an organization the size of the IFBB has economists attached actually going over these issues.
The best example I can think of to clearly demonstrate the problem of brand dilution is "Why doesn't Victoria's Secret make a lingerie line for plus-sized chicks? It would sell a ton and make them bank!" - The reason why they don't is brand dilution"that guy is like a damn unicorn" -Evan Centopani on Mamdouh Elsbiay
