As i get older I am realizing i have to get while the gettings good. I can put stats and PR's up here all day long. But, the main concepts with my workouts....
1. GO BIG OR GO HOME.
2. FORM IS EVERYTHING
3. BREATHE.

Did my first push press day yesterday, here was my workout:
BB OHP 45x12 95x10 135x8 175x6 205x3 225x1 235x1
Push press 185x5 205x3 245x2 265x(2 fails, almost got #2)) 265x1 225x7.5
Compared to my last OHP workout where I really never go heavy: BB OHP 12 95x10 135x8 165x8 175x8 185x7 135x12
Ended up pressing 235 strict which was actually a PR. Got 265 push press on my 2nd set attempt. Definitely need to work on my technique a little more but I could see getting 295 for the contest.
Probably only going to try a heavy attempt like this twice per month because I don't wanna hurt myself and it was definitely a lot of stress on my body to do this workout.

sitting around 168-171 lbs so this gives me a reason to get my diet in check so i can get in that 165 bracket lol.
never done a push press in my life tho, or standing military press either actually. seated military press i can get 185 for like 3 or 4, how many lbs roughly will the push part add if i get the form down?bench - 320 x 1
squat - 360 x 1

First female competitor checking in...
lift (yellow ID paper taped to power rack)
weigh in
Weird lift to get used to after yrs of seated ohp only. No idea what I'm doing with my legs so I don't think they're helping at all lol. Will practice and return with a better lift.Current PRs:
Bench Press: 200x1
Deads: 315x1
Back Squats: 275x1

In. not sure where I'm going to land because I A) never do one rep max's anymore B) use strict form.
No hate, but didn't like the two entries in the weightclasses above 400lbGorillas. Whether it was zero to nill lockout, or arching the back to the point of turning the lift into a standing incline press. It's clear the mod that made this thread made it because it's a very strong lift for him. Made his lift with acceptable knee dip, strong lockout, and minimal if any back arch.
Oh well, enough btching. time to get in the gym and see what I can do. Will probably be submitting in the 181 classDCA'ing FXS since Sept2022

As usual when you compete in one of these, you are good for 105@167. Got to be honest, though, you used almost no power off the legs. You pretty much did a sissy front squat, then decided to do an overhead press right around the time of lockout You get the power of your squat behind that bar and you might end up needing some new floor joists
I am thinking beatha is gonna hit big on this one if she does push press. Her strict press was, from what I remember pretty strong for the way she did it.
You think this is a strong lift for me? thanks brah(srs). I am fairly new to push press. I did not "choose" this competition though. After the last competition I gave the Misc a vote on 5 lifts that I thought I would be able to judge fairly accurately for an online competition. Front squat, push press, and clean(or power clean), squat, and deadlift were the options and the Misc chose push press.... yes I was surprised. Just so you know, I do not start these things thinking I stand a chance of winning. So I dont choose lifts because they are a strong lift for me. I choose them based on either what the Misc wants or what I just feel like seeing a lot of people do lol.
Get them over here, brah! I know there isnt a huge following of olympic lifters on this site, but I would like to see someone put up a 400+ push press. You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Lol yeah I'm doing that in about the most inefficient way possible. I'm consulting Supple Leopard on this one to teach me the ways of the push press, gotta get some torque happening up in here.

I think I might have to drop out too. I was trying to go light today (on strict press) to see where I am at but even with just 75 lbs I had pain behind my shoulder that started right before I hit lockout. I tried to massage it with one of those lacrosse balls but it didn't help that much. It only bothers me on strict press and push press, my bench is fine. If you are dealing with this and you have any advice for dealing with it would be appreciated, it doesn't feel like I'm injured per say, but it feels like I'm about to be if that makes sense.

lol yeah they definitely a whole different exercise from press and seated press. I can hit a 245 pound strict standing press. It takes more effort for me, it seems, to get 245 on push press. If you are going for one of the lighter weight classes, you might still be competitive with 135. This is one of those exercises that a heavier bodyweight seems to correlate strongly with higher numbers.
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.
