i used to run cross country and i always had problems with this. what is the best pre race meal, say you get up around 6 and the meet starts at 9. whenever i had meat i felt bogged down, and fruit/bread would give me a huge sugar spike and id crash before the race.

have oatmeal before your race....or some apple slices dipped in honey helps with endurance....stay away from carbs like bread before a race

You wouldnt want honey first thing since it is a fast energy source which can make you feel really bogged down later in the race. Also it depends on the distance of the race. I usually use a high carb supplement 3 hours before the race (IRONMAN RACE DISTANCE or MARATHON) and 1 hour I sip a another high carb drink. As I said SIP. If it is a long distance race, carb up 3 days before the race.
