is anyone familiar with Bowflex SelectTech adjustable dumbells?

    hey guys!
so im curious about these specific dumbbells.
you know how you can adjust each side from 5lbs-52.5lbs, well is each side of the dumbbell going to be 52.5 pounds so if i set both sides to 52.5 pounds it would be a 105 pound dumbbell? or is the whole dumbbell 52.5 pounds? im confused about that and if someone could clear that up that would be awesome!

    The whole dumbbell is 52.5.

It is also a very fragile design and typically will not last long with any use.

I would look at other options if I were you.

I agree, they have a very bad reputation. I have fixed dumbbells so can't make a recommendation, but I'm sure you're going to receive plenty of advice from adjustable d/b owners. My only advice, don't buy the Bowflex d/b's.

The quality of the Bowflex stuff is poor - you're better off trying to get either Powerblock or Ironmaster generally.

Bowflex has virtually no resale value (at least around me) so you drop a decent but if cash on them and then flip them for nothing when you're done. Power blocks and Ironmaster hold their value much better.

Both are good, but I went with Ironmaster. I wrote up a review recently of the Ironmaster - must say I am VERY impressed with them.

Powerblocks have their strengths too - can buy them incrementally and spread the cost, little faster to change weights, but overall I prefer the traditional dumbbell shape of the Ironmaster.

    Good luck.

    Don't buy the Bowflex!
