Good luck Shawn. I figure you're crushing your squats right about now.
If in doubt, squat and run hills. So you walk into the gym and don't know what to do? Then squat and run hills. Have a miserable day at work and want to break someone's neck but aren't sure who's? Then squat and run hills. - Wendler

Thanks guys it was a great weekend. I managed to weigh in at 198.4 on the nose on Friday then rapidly began rehydrating and eating.
I didn't get the state squat record but was damn close, I lost my balance on 430 and took a step when I was almost done the lift. Record was 425
So I went 410/280/520 = 1210
Bench 290 attempt my butt moved, go figure
Deads went pretty ok, 500 opener went nice, 520 was slowing at
lockout so went for 530 but failed at the knees.
What a weekend, Dave, Andrew and John are a class act, amazing
guys and I had the best time!
John worked his azz off for us, wrapping, liftoffs, organizing flights, warmups, picking our next attempts, spots, talking us down,
Building us up. Wow, it was a way busier weekend for him than us.
He made our first meet such an awesome experience and we are grateful for every bit of it
I was really happy with my lifts, the 430 squat was a technical fail, and it's due to inexperience with knee wraps. I put a 410 up fast too and that was cool to do on the platform. Bench, meh, I hate bench haha, got a decent number for me on the board.
Deads were good, I was getting tired at that point, 520 is a solid number to beat my next meet.
The weight cut went flawlessly,
Strength felt good and it was more technicalities that had me miss lifts. It is a whole different ballgame at a meet, loved every second
Official total = 1210☻/

Awesome 1210 Shawn, and huge effort to come in at under 200lbs. Good to hear that the the cut didn't kick you too much and if it's technical issues then that's easy stuff to deal with next time
I'm so impressed that Dave, Andrew and yourself competed today and full marks to John for putting in the the and effort to support you guys
When's the next meet ?Last edited by fittofattofit; 04-30-2017 at 07:00 AM.

Terrific meet Shawn, you are a beast man!
And I agree, John worked his tail off helping us, I know I did so much better because of his help. Really appreciated his help
Here is your 430 squat attempt, so freaking close!!! I've got some other vids I'll post up for you too
getting knee wrapped by JTBNY sure is serious. Squatting with tight knee wraps is a new skill set to learn and you'll get much more than 430 with more practice

1210? Just been a little bit sick in my mouth...
That is fecking awesome Shawn, seriously - blown my mind. Many many congratulations.
The least surprising part of your post was what a good time you had with Dave and John, and what a selfless legend John was. I am deeply jealous of you all, but super proud. Look forward to reading about John and Dave's results.☻/

Freaking awesome job Shawn! 1210 at your first meet is mind blowing. That squat looked damn close...you'll get it next time for sure.

1210!?! Holy sheeeit. That's seriously impressive.
Very envious of you guys doing your first meet together and having someone like John have your collective backs. Must've just been an absolute blast.Training Log : https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=175236371

Sorry I'm late to the party. GREAT work at the meet! 1210?!?!?!?!?!? I'm just glad you're on our side man. I think you had the strength all day long to get that state record. It looked like a momentary loss of balance to me. Anyway, your numbers are just out in the stratosphere to me. Incredible job!

Did my empty peanut butter pie plate impress you?
Thanks Andrew, it would have been awesome to have you there man!
Thanks Greg!
Thanks Andrew! I am not sure if the weight cut took much wind out of my sails or not. You would think it would a bit anyway but I was ok with that. I was up for the challenge of that squat record and really wanted to give it a shot. The meet environment is so different than anything I have experienced I get it when it's said "you don't have a total until you do a meet"
John was amazing, absolutely perfect!
Next meet for sure next April, but if anything comes up before I am not opposed to it!
Thanks Andy, you are one hell of a cool guy and hanging with you was tons of fun! We absolutely ARE doing this again my friend!
Thanks Flounder, did I mention how great it is to hear from you? We were all talking about you over dinner and how much you are missed. Hope you keep in touch
Thanks Greg! What a fun time it was. The squat was close for sure, it may have been just a bit too much for me to handle, I am not sure what I did exactly, I do know that at some point in that squat I blew up blood vessels in both eyeballs
Thanks Ron, I feel great about the meet!
Thanks again man, that was my favourite lift of the day I did!
Thanks for all the support Simon!
Thanks man, I appreciate you stopping in and the support! We had such a cool team, and an even cooler leader
Thanks Trent! I learned a ton and had a blast. I had more fun watching the doods lift after me, what a rush!!
Thanks Shane! I really wanted that 430 but my body couldn't hold it together. It's pretty much a blur so I don't really know where it went wrong…could have something to do with it being 430 on my back haha. The weight cut was so close, I was stressed that I wasn't going to make it…what a relief
right back at you brother!! Your 430 deadlift was one of my favourite parts of the meet!
Ah it's not anymore impressive than mixed grip, it's hook grip and once you get past the pain of working on it initially, the grip is bombproof!☻/

Saw the vids on your tube channel, massive congratulations Shawn, 1210 is a fantastic total, you should be well proud of yourself. I think you surprised yourself a bit with that 430, just rushed to lockout and faltered a bit. I could hear the support you were getting on the camera, awesome from all the others in attendance at the meet.

Ok so what now? Diet time.
Morning Weight: 204
no programs for a while. I have some things I want to dabble in, bit of strongman, conditioning, working on bench technique and building my quads strength up.
This week will be quiet in here, need a week off from lifting. I will resume journaling when I come up with a plan for next week. I may hit the dreadmill and some light stuff this week but mainly rest up after the meet. I will diet until I am very lean, with plans to pick up a powerlifting program in September again while I begin a surplus. Not sure what exactly my gameplan is for training, I will throw something together this week. Thanks for all the support leading up to this everyone, it's been an awesome journey!☻/
