If you don't think Nate won the 5th because the takedown was cheap/not worth as much as the judges think then surely you'd also agree that running away for multiple rounds is bad too?

MMA Judges are horrible so kind of pointless as to who wins by decision anyway... gotta finish the opponent to be worth anything in this sport as usual.

The running was pretty bad, but like I said earlier, Alistair won by running and outlanding Roy Nelson. Do they have the statistics of the fifth up yet? I want to see the significant strikes landed by both men and the amount of octagon control Nate had.

Am I the only one who thought that Nate was faking those knockdowns to try to get the fight to the ground? He would stand and trade with Connor immediately afterwards with no fuks given and Connor was also hesitant to capitalize on the knockdowns which tells me he saw what Nate was trying to do.

my read on at least the 1st one was just, he hadn't been hit hard yet and it took him by surprise

at least one of them i got the impression he read leg kick and ended up getting punched which again took him by surprise

those were solid shots though, i don't think there was any real possum going on

Conor got dropped and beat for 3 minutes start in in round 2.

Not a huge McGregor fan and it's probably because of the McGregor nut huggers more than anything else but I do like his standup style and I've got some newfound respect for him for being able to change his game up and go for those leg kicks as well as keep the fight standing. I think either he just came in with the better game plan this fight and fought smarter of ufc is rigged and they told Nate to let it go to decision for a trilogy and a big payday. I've still got to give props to Connor for having the patience and restraint to pick his shots instead of trying to throw flashy kicks followed by a hook punch in hopes of a knockout.

I'm a pro wrestling fan...and you need to get your eyes and/or brain re-examined. Nate was not "working" and pretending to "shoot"

He's not that good of an offensive wrestler, I guess Conor's TDD is good enough, he's been good enough mostly at FW before this, outside of the Mendes fight which has some asterisks. Plus, Conor had been battering his right leg making it tougher to shoot and level change

Fair enough. I agree witht hat basic assessment. I just didn't think Glover could possibly withstand a bunch of AJ shots, unless he got takedowns or a big punch early, even if partially blocked because of how he'd been visibly rocked against much less hard hitters than AJ, and guys with less skilled striking and not as intimidating of hand speed--for instance, Ryan Bader.

that's why I didn't score it a 10-8 either initially. but he knocked him down a bunch, and all the replays showed how hard and clean a lot of those shots were. Much harder than most of the shots in the 1st fight, imo. Nate didn't roll or partially block them nearly as much.

yeah sure, more evidence of the massive dmg from the first two rounds. and why he won that round when I was expecting Diaz to just start to pour it on him and take the fight. but conor pulled it out imo.

If he went Kalib Starnes fully, sure. He did it some, and it doesn't help. But it wasn't egregious. Any of ya'll hold that against Gus vs. Cormier or Jones? Gus did the same thing, probably more times. Literally the sideways, mostly back, and jog to reset strategy.

watching the fight i was thinking i would not want to be a judge for this because either way the decision went people wouldn't be happy.

yeah can't say i'm an expert on judging 10-8 rounds so just throwing out my 2c, if someone gets mounted for 5 mins and is barely saved by the bell then yeah that's obvious, but in situations like this where yep connor definitely won the round but was it enough for 10-8? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. they're supposed to introduce the new judging rules soon right? i just want good decisions.

i don't think you can hold the blood against diaz them scarred fighters just cut and bleed.

i'm probably just being harsher on conor, he got the early knock downs, he busted his face up but nate got up and kept walking forward giving him those cheeky points and middle finger.

I'm not even mad at that decision, but what I am mad at is the ****ty cut men. Diaz had his eyelid pouring with blood and nobody thought to put vaseline on it. You could see it bothering him visibly in rd 4, I think that had a huge impact on his performance that round.

Conor was gassed in the second round after the 3 minute mark, for 3 minutes Diaz was blasting him and Conor was gasping for air and got knocked down in the process.

Diaz was round 2 easily, won round 3 by a LARGE margin, Conor barely won round 4 and Diaz won round 5 by a comfortable margin.

Glover got caught quick and Diaz/Mac was great and I'm not even complaining that Conor took that, knew the nod would go to him

I'm trying to remember the first fight, if Conor took all those combos in that one round against the fence and nate couldn't drop could've he survived in the first bout if he stayed standing instead of becoming a panic wrestler?

It really could have gone either way. There's was more control in the fight put on by Diaz, particularly rounds 3-5, but Conor obviously did a lot more damage.

I fukin loved this fight though. Seeing Diaz go wobbly, Conor teeing off, Diaz upping the tempo, Conor fading, Diaz Stalking and then Conor catching that second wind. I really wasn't sure if Conor was going to be able to go the distance. I'm just fukin impressed by the whole fight.
