Who makes accurate and affordable 45lb iron plates?
I wanted to buy some York legacy plates off rogue, but a pair with shipping is over 300 dollars I believe. The Rogue irons have poor reviews and I'm just not going to bother.

how accurate do you need them to be? if you want calibrated plates, you're looking at a pretty penny.
your best bet might be to check the used market. get some older plates that have been milled for accuracy maybe, and at least try to put together a set where the plates are all consistent in weight, so they're not uneven, and you can just mark them with the actual weight.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Within a pound. The Rogues were reviewed to be off by as much as almost 2.5 lbs. (47.4lbs) No thanks.

If you're not competing, 100% accurate plates are a waste of money, imo. Weigh your current plates and try to pair them up as closely as possible so the bar is balanced.

the Troy HO plates are 2% accurate +or minus, which means you're looking at plus or minus 1 pound. here they are with a cheap barbell:

any more and i think you're looking at the much higher range in price.
like i said before: you're probably better off shopping the used market and find a good set of older, used weights.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Lot's of workarounds:
1 - weigh your plates when you buy them. This is an option at stores where you can buy a la carte and not in sets. Digital luggage scale and a short loop of rope is very cheap.
2 - weigh the plates in you possession, mark the plate weight with a grease pencil
3 - take your plates above and machine overweight ones to accurate weigh and discard underweight plates. Just hit the backs with an angle grinder?
4 - ignore plate weight differences, just turn around your bar or body on alternate sets
5 - don't worry about it, just liftClive, you're a good guy. - AttyGuy

If you want accurate plates but not iron, lots of bumper plates are within 10 to 15 grams of claimed weight.
York also has "calibrated" iron plates, which they claim are within 15 grams too, but they cost more.
I wouldn't worry too much about bar imbalances, just do as others have mentioned above and weigh the plates. I can't weigh my plates right now, so I'm not even going to bother until I get a scale.

M-series is etched on flat side of weight near hole... I believe that these are OM series after reading the Ivanko archives. I'll still keep them... I have nearly identical pairs ranging from 45.1 to 48.9 ish
I think three plates were 48.x so the 48.9 was paired up with one remaining 46.2 I'll just have to add 2.5 to balance them out some.
What's funny is that my CAP and Hampton weights were very close to the advertised weight... My really cheap Olympic standard weights were all 43.x to 45.x lbs so pretty close to advertised weight.
M-Series 45 lb plates are: 44.8, 45.3, 47.1, 47, 48.5, 48.3, 45.1, 45.1, 46.9, 46.9, 48.9, 46.2
O-series 45 lb plates are: 45.4, 47.3
York 45 lb plates are: 47.3, 44.9
100 lb plates are: 100.7, 100.6, 98
12 various 45 lb olympic plates range from 43.x plusLast edited by Nebamartinez; 08-07-2016 at 07:54 PM.

Weighed my Nautilus 45s. My scale isn't accurate enough to read them consistently so I measured each plate like 5 times and looked at the trends. Other than 1 single measurement of 44.6 every measurement was within 45.4 and 45.8 with most plates having several 45.6 or 45.8 measurements. These are old and chipped with rust spots so maybe they have slowly dissolved away to a mostly even weight.

A couple things you can do to make it exactly what you want:
1. Machine or shave off or drill holes into, to reduce weight.
2. Weld something onto, to increase weight. (Or superglue/screw/bolt on then dip or paint on epoxy/rubber.)
I think the adding part is too much work unless you got the plates really cheap.
What I would probably do is make sure all my change plates and all plates smaller than the 45s as accurate as I can. Most commercial fractional plates are accurate enough.

If anyone is interested I weighed my Hammer Strength rubberized (3 hole EZ grip) 20kg plates and consistently got 19.9kgs. Of course my scales aren't calibrated. But I think if you use the same brand/model of plates they are more likely to balance because they use the same mold.
For training it doesn't matter, but it always adds a shadow of doubt to your personal bests especially when hitting milestones like the 300 club etc.
