Let's say you're a new Personal Trainer, and you have a few potential clients who will be your first, and they ask how many clients you have trained, how would you respond? This is assuming you've never trained a client in your life (except maybe friends and family).

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon

I had this same situation and told em my credentials and how i would get the results. Kind of proving that I had the knowledge and they were fine with that. Told them that i was fresh out of training so i would put more passion/effort into them than any of the more expeirenced trainers in the gym (which is 100% true).

It is irrelevant. Do the math. If that many people are asking you this, then your clientele is probably growing at a rate where the number is impressive enough to say. For example, " Well, yesterday I signed up three people and the day before I signed up two.' If only a few people ask this per month and each month the number of clients isn't growing, forcing you to admit an embarrassing number like '2', then you are not acquiring enough business for it to matter enough to stress about it.
You are either legitimately not busy, meaning 'Last week was my first week here but so far there seems to a be a very good flow of interest for my services. You are the 5th person I have consulted today.' or you are not someone people want to hire and you have to say something like 'Well, I've been here a month and I only have 2 clients so there are plenty of slots available from which to choose.'
If you are embarrassed about the number, there is a reason. To succeed at doing what you love, you often must do many things you hate.
