Exactly. I don't compare my circumstance to other people. Its a fruitless excersize. If I had a problem with the Walton family I could use my market power *read dollars* to support a different business. That's how the free market works. The good thing is some no one in Arkansas made a billion dollar company like wal mart from nothing. The opportunity for other people to do the same exists

What's worse: starving or going to find work? That's the real question. We are creating an entire class of people who do nothing but drain a system that doesn't have much left to drain from.
Big business and small government are not mutually exclusive. It's actually a harmonious relationship. The less government interference, the more prosperous the market (generally). I don't want an macroeconomic debateBald head scallywag

again, not everyone who wants to find work can. sure, some (or many) are abusing the system, but there are also people who genuinely need the help. there's just no way to be precise with broad policy tools. so in the end it really boils down to which you think is the greater evil: free loaders or genuine poverty.

They woudn't starve, trust me. They might end up in the system, which sucks, but not any more than having a crack whore mother that doesn't take of you.
Playing the system has become a business. A full ride on government assistance equals about $40 per hour. To make thing inflate even more is that, if a woman has children to multiple fathers, each of those children can be counted as a completely different family, doubling the money coming in.
Our system is broken. If you want a social service like this to work, you need full cooperation with everyone involved and responsible family planning etc. We will never have that. Give an inch, they will take a foot. This is why I believe we need a system in which volunteer work must be done in order to get anything from the government. There are lots and lots of low skill jobs available, as well as educated jobs that some of the homeless and poor can do, considering we have a population of highly educated homeless.Last edited by Kraken; 07-18-2016 at 08:25 PM.

This guy is exactly right. If you are taking from the system you should have to
- provide 20hr min community service
- be able to pass a drug test at random
- show that you have been actively applying and looking for work
- not be allowed to have kids while on it or up to 3 years thereafterBald head scallywag

I'm no bleeding heart or a lib, but I agree with this statement. I'm all for helping those in need that either can't help themselves legitimately or are trying to get back on their feet. The scum will take advantage of it, our government needs to figure out how to regulate welfare better and monitor the spending.
I also like the idea above about putting them to work cleaning streets and such.
Ultimately welfare is needed to keep order.

I have seen the system. I have been in the crack houses. I have been called to a house for a welfare check, to find the mother and BF laying on the floor, overdosed, and the child in the kitchen, getting in to cabinets that contained detergents and cleaners. Diaper hadn't been changed for at least 12+ hours. Toddler looks under weight and tells me she is hungry, so I look around the house and find nothing. I walk to my rig and get my lunch for the day, and see I have yogurt and a banana in there. I Let her eat, and she crawls in to my lap and puts her arms around me. We used Narcan on the mother and BF. BF has lost a pulse. We start resuscitating him and haul his butt to the hospital where he died. Mother lived.
So please, tell me, with all of your personal experience and education, explain to me why staying at that home is better than the process of finding her a family that will care for her? Humans need 4 things to survive and thrive; Food, water, shelter, and love. People seem to forget the love part.
I have prayed for that girl every day since we left that house. I was never able to find out what happened to her, but still, I Pray. Leaving that house was one of the hardest things I have ever done. One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.
