i dont see how what i described isn't what guerrilla warfare is. it generally only makes sense to use guerrilla tactics if the enemy is superior to you (more men, resources, better logistics/supply lines etc). if there were inferior, you'd face them conventionally

and this not as effective on familiar terrain, which is what such a conflict would be fought on.

also, i really don't get why you think any number of armed civillians with semi-autos and whatever they could make could defeat the United States military without inside or outside help. you thought that the US used mostly drones, when that simply isn't the case. you realize there are many more things in the arsenal than predator drones, right?

an attempt to violently overthrow the federal government by armed citizens without military help from somewhere would be a bloodbath. even in conflicts where guerrilla tactics were used against the USA and seen as "effective," way more enemy combatants died than US servicemembers.

why do you think you'd stand a chance against the best military in the world by a colossal margin with whatever you can find at a gun show? if you HAVE to use guerrilla tactics to even stand a chance, you have no chance at winning in the long run.

US gun owners are in hundreds of millions, they outnumber any military in the world, including US by dozens to one, many of them are recent police, military, and remember, many soldiers will side with people. Very unlikely that soldiers will fire upon civilians, their families are civilian etc. In the unlikely scenario of heavily armed large population VS military, population always wins. History. Any military bro here will tell you this. Given approval rating of government I'm not sure ANY military will obey orders from some ****git in the White House to kill the population.

that isn't the scenario I was discussing with the other guy. he thought that the population could just take on the military unassisted (which it couldn't)

to be fair though, a situation that would call for such violence would definitely fracture the military into pro and anti-government factions. this is the only way a civilian rebellion would have any chance of succeeding, assuming no other nations join the conflict (which is a silly assumption)

the only way you'd have a chance at beating the government is if part of the government (or another, foreign government) joined you. it's that simple.

i know that this could never happen realistically as i put it forth in my other post, but the other guy seemed to think that regular people with guns could just beat the military, and that just isn't the case. there's more to warfare than just fighting, and tactics. there's logistics as well; there is simply no way a rebellion of millions could stay in fighting shape for the period of time it would take to beat the US, even ignoring all other factors (still assuming the unrealistic scenario in which no military members defect, and no other countries help anyone, and the military stops caring about the welfare of the population)
