Huh? I started a thread about an ex that dumped me? No not at all, if you read my original post I was simply posing a question, only brought up the engineer later and he's NOT an ex, we went on a couple dates and only talked. Not sure in which world a couple of dates turns someone into an ex, but definitely not mine.

As for being with someone new, I am casually dating this person. We don't even consider each other as bf/gf. Getting to know each other and developing a friendship hardly qualifies as a full blown relationship, at least for him and I and that's all that matters, not some net stranger's view on what he assumes is our private situation.

So before imply that something is "off" with my thread and that I am "that" woman (whatever that means to you) get the facts straight. Can't provide useful input otherwise, sorry.

And as for the poster who keeps asking me to show proof of my PhD and nuclear physics papers, I don't feel the need to prove to some online stranger who clearly doesn't think much of my thread anything. Perhaps if you'd approached the topic in a friendly fashion I would have been happy to disclose specifics? Food for thought. And for the record, my userID contains a huge clue as to what it is I do but I don't believe many noticed.

I think bottom line is: meeting someone who is your match personality-wise, intellectually and physically is the key. Difficult but not impossible, just need to keep an open mind, not settle for less, and have fun in the meantime.

I do believe the ladies have a point, SOME men will have insecurities and egos that can't handle a successful woman, but from most of the guys' responses here, at least a vast proportion of men don't have these hold ups and that recently published social study was likely very biased. I'm happy to learn this!

I'll have to be devil's advocate and ask: what is being intelligent anyway? How do we define it? There are different types of intelligence and I don't believe a high education or making lots of money defines intelligent.

Some of you know how many STEM degrees I have and honestly I feel pretty stupid about many things. I'm good at certain things, especially linear thinking/pattern recognition but I sometimes struggle with inventive-type thinking. I've dated a lot before my husband, some were more educated than me, some much less. Never been an issue. I never see this as a difference in intelligence, but maybe more of a difference in life experience.

I can see higher income being a problem for some guys of our generation. My marriage is pretty traditional - same education level but I have a lower salary because I stayed home with the kids for a number of years, so I don't know.

Maybe my husband thinks I'm a hot dumb chick and that's why he stayed around for so long

I judge by the Rubik's cube skills. It's the only truly objective measure of intelligence. I always carry a Rubik's cube with me on first dates. If she matches the colors, then sparks fly.
