soy protein?

alright so today at school after weightlifting, i was eating a south beach diet protein bar. i picked a couple up because they seemed to be pretty good nutrional wise, and all the other SBD products ive had have been very tasty. so as i was reading the ingredients, i noticed "soy protein isolate," and no whey protein to be found. so im just wondering, what's the difference between the two? is there any advantages/disadvantages to have soy protein post workout rather than whey protein?

Soy is a possible pro-estrogen agent and ergo unless your a vegetarian or vegan is bad news.

Soy confuses me.

Some say it's poison, but millions (if not billions) of people eat it with seemingly no ill effects.

The only actual study I've ever seen on soy proteins negative effects came from UPenn, and it concluded that soy was safe.

However, even though I'm a vegetarian, I take Cookie Monster's new stand on life and consider it a "sometimes food".

Beware! the soy doomsayers are here! Soy will give you gyno and make you gay!

but seriously, there's nothing wrong with A soy protein bar once in a while. Remember it's good to get your protein from a wide variety of sources.

Yea, thats true getting your protein from a different types is a good idea. Forgot the science behind it but meh. Soy has alot of health benefits but i avoid because i already have low test levels and dont want to chance it ill stay on the no soy side till my test levels are normal again.

Actually Soy is toxic to humans if eaten raw in large amounts. Cooked or steamed Soy have no ill effects though.

SureshKumar05 is on a distinguished road. (+10)
Soya is not a vimpire

I agree with you Soya has side effects , but it too have some positive effects . For eg Soya been is good in protein appx 100grm of soya conatins 38 grm of protein . along with it it is very less in fat . and it do conatin some fats like omega which are very good for brain development.
also the type of protien in soya bean help in reducing castro

But the bad new over here is soya bean has only three types of protein , as compaired to 8 in non veg and diary products . also the main side effect is it reduces tes... level . but i m dout ful on it as china is the major consumer of soya and has a huge population

but eating 60-70 grm of soya will not have any harm. just soke 60-70 grm of soya bean in water overnight and eat it in morning .
