The US hasn't produced like those countries because from a young age our best athletes play other sports besides soccer. It's as simple as that.


Great soccer players are born not made. You can talk about our lack of development programs or tactics, the latter being especially overrated. Because often times young great players go to academies in European countries to develop anyway. Who knows how many great ones the US has produced that just grew up in the city playing basketball.


All those countries you listed have a culture of futbol. They don't have that dilemma. If hypothetically the US adopted that outlook tomorrow the US would eventually become world class. And it wouldn't take as long as you think.

This, and the scholarship aspect as well. More money is devoted to basketball, and football programs (including high school).

I think a lot of it has to do with mentality. We may have a decent amount of youth soccer, but it's not taken seriously. Most parents who put their kids in it just don't want them to be fatasses.

Then go into youth football camps and AAU basketball leagues. It's night and day when you're talking about the intensity, drive, and seriousness. If that kind of attitude along with the tier 1 athletes suddenly went to youth soccer in the US, the US would eventually be a powerhouse once enough years passed to allow those athletes to grow up. There's a reason why the US dominates the Olympics while having no federal backing or anything.
