I was getting eggs and spinach at my local shopping wearhouse and came up with something funny to say during any potential instances of checkout banter. A lady with a bunch of bread and bagels for her hotel job let me go in front of her, and in the banter I almost forgot, but she commented as I was leaving that I was getting all my salad ingredients together and I'm like bam: "Yeah, it just turned paleo'clock." It wasn't my finest moment but she caught it all the same. Extra points for the combo since she had a push crate of bagels, breads, and other grains in contrast to paleo diets that avoid grains.

He was a bit past his prime when I started following but I remember seeing some of those fights.
Probably the most exciting time for me watching basketball was following '92 Dream Team games in the early hours of the morning. Seeing all those hall of famers on the one team was pretty special and even though Magic and Bird were at the end of their careers having them in the lineup added to the excitement.
All greats but before my time. Saw a bit of Kareem in the 80s and of course have watched a lot of 70s-80s footage since. Definitely a candidate for GOAT.
Hakeem was my favorite center and I'd argue the most skilled player in the game. Jordan was more athletic but not more skilled in my opinion. Will never forget when David Robinson got the MVP and a pissed off Hakeem had a point to prove.

Which country? I watched every game. 90s is where the NBA peaked in both skill and athleticism.
This is the video I was looking for. Damn I miss those post moves. That's why the likes of Kobe and LeBron went to train with him. Not just a bunch of random highlights either, this was on the biggest stage against the best opposition and against the MVP.
Sure beats watching a bunch of 3 point snipers.

I've watched that clip at least a dozen times over the years. One of the greatest performances in NBA history, still gives me goosebumps. Hakeem was unbelievable in the '95 playoffs; he basically dragged a relatively mediocre Rockets team (even after trading for Drexler) to the title that year. Only team in NBA history to beat four 50+ win teams in route to the championship.
Dom, here's a cool clip of Robert Horry talking about Hakeem: http://grantland.com/features/robert...er-in-history/

Good to see you Blunt.
re: Horry that's a solid testimonial. Shaq ranked him at #1 of his greatest centers and Jordan picked him as one of the 4 players he'd want on a team. Averaged over 11 rebounds per game + 3 seasons where he averaged over 4 blocks per game which is crazy. Averaged over 3 BPG for his career. It's easy to forget he was closer to 6'9" than 7ft.
Was the only player to win MVP, Finals MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.
I really miss seeing talented bigs who could play inside with that much skill. Too many snipers on the perimeter jacking up 3s these days.
Let's face it when a 73-9 team signs a 7 footer who can hang with Curry from 3pt range you know it's going to kill the sport.

Actually the '92 team did lose in scrimmage but MJ was on the bench.
Chuck Daly obviously wanted them to lose so he could use it as motivation to keep them from underestimating the opposition and becoming complacent. Obviously that roster on the big stage being coached to win wasn't losing to anyone.

I didn't either until I watched the documentary. Definitely worth watching to reminisce about the best team ever assembled in any sport, period. Better than spending 90 minutes watching those overpaid divas diving for a 2 goal draw. A lot of great footage here.

When you see how fiercely competitive those guys were it really drives home how gutless Durant was to join a 73-9 team that he had on the ropes 3-1 before choking.
16:50 Barkley thought he was the best PF while Malone thought he was. So they faced off in practice to take turns dunking on each other.
Seriously you couldn't imagine Magic joining the Celtics or MJ joining the Pistons or Malone and Ewing joining the Bulls. In their primes they wanted to beat the best. Ring chasing was for twilight years and not prime.

Good piece. haha nobody recognized John, he could walk about freely. 6'1 white guy. And Barkley trying to drink with Larry.
You have to wonder if young squirts (that like to argue goat endlessly) that watched the games and read the box scores realize Magic and Bird were wayy past their prime, Bird with injuries almost didn't play and Magic after taking a year off getting hiv treatments. Jordan and Barkley looked like the best in the world at that time, but if it was 5 or 6 years earlier they'd both be on the team but it'd be a much different dynamic.DR. 3time

Hard to believe one of the greatest point guards could walk straight off the team bus and slip into anonymity like that. Felt sorry for him when his kid had to point out his face on an American fan's shirt. While Jordan was the most popular player that documentary reflects what I experienced at the time — Barkley was everywhere and all over TV. He was always talking to cameras.
Agreed. I like that Magic convinced Bird to do it and Jordan stepped aside to let them be co-captains. That was a great send off. I'd completely forgotten Isiah Thomas was straight up cockblocked by Jordan and Pippen. Had that squad been put together a couple years earlier before Air Jordan and No Tippin Pippen had rings you'd imagine with the Pistons coach at the helm he would have been an automatic selection.
Documentary definitely brought back some great memories and reminded me of how much I loved the game. There will never be anything like that.

+Kawhi (wants out of SA)
+Paul George (just said "the most important thing is winning a championship")
...could be interesting.
The way I see it making more finals and not winning them is hurting his legacy even though everyone knows no one could do a better job with that roster. Better to have a crack at them during the playoffs and live with the outcome. He's got to be tired of hearing that they only won in 2016 because Draymond was suspended for Game 5.
I'm sure he likes the challenge of taking a 3rd team into the Finals.

Well, anyone with a brain. Half the misc doesn't understand that or they're trolling. I remembered why I usually only go there for college football. (Although there's a good GBP dedicated thread Part VII)
And yes, that's the 2nd reason I really hope he moves to the Western Conference.
And 3rd, Cleveland's just a disaster, they'll be guaranteed bottom feeders again if he leaves.Last edited by Orlando1234977; 06-29-2018 at 11:32 AM.
