Hey man, those shoes up above look like canvas shoes, don't buy them if you're going to be doing ollies, flip tricks, etc. You will rip a hole through them the first week. You want suede shoes, they last longer and give you better traction for ollies. These are the best and most comfortable, from my experience.

I googled a little and found out why it was super complicated for me to learn to skate, im a *mongo* apparently.


So from today i started learning how to be proper regular

pushing with right foot instead of left, and boy it is difficult.

give it a few days skating to reprogram your brain and you'll be good. my mind is blown that you cruise like that though

One thing I'll suggest is you stand in one spot, and without thinking take a step forward. That'll 100% guarantee what stance you are. If you lead with your right, you're goofy; Left, regular.

it was one of the main reasons i quit when i was young as i thought i was so hard to skate around. Nobody was there to teach me the basics or anyone in my area who skated, besides i played other sports.

Cheers. It won't take you long to adopt a proper stance, with the added benefit of fakie feeling good for you from pushing mongo.

what i found most difficult today was, given the fact that i have to leanr how to push with the right I end up kind of *pushing* with the left foot while it is on the board.

Is this normal, there where times when i felt i didnt even give any push with my right leg

You're just used to the way mongo feels; You're basically retraining yourself how to ride. It'll come within a day or two, so keep at it!

I am used to dirtjumping and downhilling on my mountain bike, but I always loved watching skateboarding.

I know the feeling. I myself wont go to one until I feel I can do more than just a few tricks. These days kids under 8 years old can shred like crazy, an I don't feel like getting mentored by an 8 year old

I think i was stopping myself due to embarrassment of being 32, but i know its all in my head

oh i just got back from skating in an estate and residents were watching me. My self consciousness disappeared and im ready to hit a skatepark.

Yeah it is all in your head. I had that a bit myself, but it's so enjoyable that I simply don't care about being seen skating. As far as parks go though, I don't think ill go until I can kickflip.

If you don't land summat, but tell people what you're trying, the most that will happen is they will give you pointers if they know how to do the trick or they will watch in anticipation of you landing it. I used to be extremely self-conscious about skateparks, too, but what I've learned is that I personally am not judging anybody there, so the same is true of them. They may watch you just because you're trying a fuking hardflip, but it's not the same sort of attention that you get from, say, *******s at the gym. An example: I was trying heelflips back when I couldn't do them, and there was this bloke who was doing **** like 8 foot gaps and crazy vert ****. Even though I wasn't landing anything, the guy yelled at me "KNEE HIGH!" when he saw how high I could pop. Me not being good at heelflips didn't matter, since he knew what it was like first starting out, and supported me regardless of his skill level compared to mine.

I actually got over my fear of trying tricks in public after going to a massive event. Lots of people watching, lots of girls watching, but I was so focused on landing the trick that I forgot/didn't care whether people were judging me. Even people who don't skate see you flailing around in the air at high speeds and think, at most, "Holy fuk.. this guy is nuts!"

Really consider going to a skatepark, even just to interact with the brahs there. There's no better way to learn tricks and chit than to talk to people and ask questions, and denying yourself that opportunity over feeling inadequate is heartbreaking (no homo), especially when the community you're a part of is more than willing to support you.


TL;DR - Both of you brahs shouldn't feel pressure to be good at skateparks. So long as you're trying, and courteous of other skaters at the park, people will be stoked to have you around.

FS 180 and ollie. I'm trying to be more consistent with higher ollies and olleing up and down curbs at the moment

head to your local skateshop like I did, and the guys there will take care of you, build you a skateboard, and answer any questions you have

stopped when i started playing football in hs. I def miss tho days, just cruising around looking for spots to grind.

my best trick was def the kick flip, took so much fukin time to practice but i finally got it down. i might be able to do it now.

now thinking about it, i could prolly be better since im stronger and have much more stamina then my 15 year old self. very injury prone sport tho

edit: OP, id learn how to pop-shove it. itll make you learn how to control your board with a simple trick, it'll open up a huge variety of tricks just from the shove it.

I personally think guys who are over 18 and skate for fun are losers. Then again I knocked my tooth out skating when I was 12 and Ive been missing a tooth since.

i dont think theres anything wrong with mongo, might be more functional when your pushing because since your weight is on the back end, you'll roll over rocks and stuff. i can see why it gets complex, you gotta rotate after you push, but do what makes you comfortable

edit: OP, id learn how to pop-shove it. itll make you learn how to control your board with a simple trick, it'll open up a huge variety of tricks just from the shove it.

pretty sure that this was the first trick i could do when i was younger. Ill work on it

edit: nvm I could only do it stationary and without popping the board

Why not? I used to skateboard as a teen but I was out of shape and chubby and pretty terrible at it. I still have my old board, so once in a blue moon I'll walk through the garage, pull it out, and try to kickflip. It's all fuked up but I'm still terrible.

I'd love to try again, but a massive part of me always thinks that if I fall and injure myself, it's RIP gains. So, I refrain.
