Not gonna lie when the other reps left Athletic edge I was expecting the brand to fade into the distance shortly after. Haven't used any of the new stuff since the "rebranding", its on the to try list at some point tho.

We've certainly been growing in the major retail channels, in particular since the rebrand launched. Had our hands full there, now that we are making powerful progress, figured I would personally come back here after a year or so and see who was left that remembers us. Apparently, from the last two promo threads, quite alot of people, which was a pleasant surprise.

I've tried Intrabolic and APE but its been probably 3 years or so. Worked well for me then, probably work even better now.

Hey guys, Cjdx here with a review of Athletic Edge Nutrition's Steel Edge and Intrabolic. I was lucky enough to win a full size tub of both products as well as some samples of the new strawberry margarita flavor of Steel Edge.

Steel Edge

Value: 8/10 The current BOGO 50% off deal makes this product $0.90 per serving which is pretty good. Even with this offer however you can get cheaper pre-workouts. I don't however think you will find cheaper pre-workouts that offer this much value/quality to the customer. If the price is truly $1.20 per serving when there isn't a BOGO 50% off deal going on then I think it is a tad bit overpriced. If the tub was 30 servings or if they dropped the price to $25 then AEN would be more in line with competitors.

Ingredient Profile: 10/10 Any company that actually lists how much of each ingredient is in their product has my utmost respect. This product packs a lot of punch. Especially in the caffeine department. Also like how steel edge has 3mg of creatine mono in it. It’s like two products in one.

Taste: 7/10 I'm not a huge fan of the Fruit Punch flavor. If I had to rate it i'd probably go with 6/10. It has more of a cherry/bubblegum feel to it. Another reviewer commented that it's "not like a Hawaiian punch type of fruit punch" which is a good way to describe it. Very different than a typical fruit punch. It smells like bubble gum and is a little bit sweet tasting. My favorite flavor of all 3 AEN flavors I got to try was the Strawberry Margarita flavor. This was not the best flavor I've ever tried but it was far better than the fruit punch. I would put it at an 8/10. You can taste a hint of strawberry and it's more on the bitter side than the sweet side which is a heavy preference of mine when it comes to pre-workouts.

Mixability: 8/10 Steel Edge has a pale pink appearance and that goes for both of the flavors. Using a shaker bottle there is a bit of bubbly froth at the top after mixing, as well as some residue on the bottom and floaties. This is to be expected because of the 3mg of creatine monohydrate in the product.

Energy: 10/10 The best thing about this product by far is the energy. It is out of this world. 300mg of caffeine plus the 50mg sustained release caffeine knocked my socks off. The energy at the beginning of the workout stays consistent through the ENTIRE workout. I am just as pumped for the last set as I am the first.

Focus: 9/10 I never lost interest in my workout at the gym. My thoughts didn't trail. I never got bored or off-track in the gym, which sometimes has happened in the past. Very pleased with the focus of this product.

Jitters: 8/10 This product has 1.6g of beta alanine which is around the normal amount I see in most pre-workouts. I feel more of a warmth than jitters with this pre-workout. I personally don’t mind getting the jittery/tingly feeling from a preworkout, I actually quite like it. So I guess this rating is subjective and entirely depends on whether or not you like the tingly feeling a lot of pre's provide.

Crash: 10/10 No crash!!! I would classify this as a good thing (hence the 10/10) but something you should note is that there is a lot of caffeine so be careful taking this close to bed time. It kept me up one night.

Pump: 9/10 I noticed a great pump on all the days I took Steel Edge. Vascularity was there but it isn't the best product I've seen in that regard.

Packaging: 7/10 I really like the new slick design AEN is rolling out. From a graphic design viewpoint It is a very sexy look. With that said, the physical packaging is lacking. The plastic label with the nutritional information is extremely flimsy and cheap, so much that it fell off almost immediately when I tried opening the tub. There was also the problem of not being able to open the tub. After reaching out to the AEN rep he notified me it was one batch that the lid tightening machine accidentally over tightened. So it is good to hear it was a known incident and not something that all customers will have to deal with. Another note about packaging: the strawberry margarita sample package was incorrectly labeled. It gave information for 1 serving size and says there are 25 servings in the tub.. but this is on the label for a sample packet. The mistake means almost nothing because no one is dumb enough to think they have to ration their sample pack into 25 miniscule servings, but it is a mistake that should be noted.

Overall: 9/10 The product has some minor setbacks but in the categories that matter most: profile and effectiveness, the product excels.

Intrabolic

Value: 10/10 30 servings for $16 is a great and more than fair price for what's in the product.

Formula: 10/10 Once again, the honesty of showing how much of what is actually in the product is extremely important to me. Intrabolic packs 10 grams of amino-acids per serving and has 0 grams of sugar.

Taste: 7/10 Not a huge fan of the Mojito Summer Cooler flavor. I have never tried a real Mojito and was really confused when I first mixed the product. It comes out the same pale pink color the two flavors of steel edge came out. It makes a lot of sense for Strawberry Margarita to be pink, it makes some sense for fruit punch to be pink, but it makes no sense for the Mojito Summer Cooler to be pink and that really messed with my mind. It should have been light green. Now it doesn't really matter what color they make the product, but it can be confusing trying to get your brain to think that you are drinking a mint-y drink when it is pink. My first experience with it was that it was just a queer taste. The second or third time I drank it i started to actually enjoy drinking it but the first time was uncomfortable. Overall, I got used to it, but I don't think I'd re-order that flavor.

Mixability: 8/10 It mixes the same as Steel Edge (see above) but with a little less froth and comes out a bit clearer.

Packaging: 10/10 Really like the new look. No problems with the tub or label for intrabolic.

Effect: 10/10 Kept me going during my workouts. I feel like when I drink intraworkout in between sets it refreshes me before the next set, both mentally and physically. I do believe this product has helped with my recovery. It is very easy to see for me. I just got back into working out at a higher volume/frequency, so soreness has been my enemy as of late. I noticed that when I take this product the days following my workouts aren’t as bad and I am ready to get back in the gym and repeat muscle groups quicker.

Overall: 9/10 It sucks that I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor I got because I really do think this product is a 10/10. Perhaps I would like the juicy watermelon flavor more. I hope AEN continues to roll out new flavors so I can find something I like and boost this rating to a 10/10.

Awesome reviews and I can't express how valuable your feedback is. I do want to address one small area on your SteelEdge value section as I believe it's worth sharing on.

I appreciate your comments on being more inline with our competitors price wise, though SteelEdge actually is and that's actually a big problem for us and will be changing come 8/1(price increase on SteelEdge)

The reasons, if you look at SteelEdge's formula, there isn't another pre-workout that can match, or even closely match, so our costing on SteelEdge compared to others, is vastly different, not to mention the additional cost of the gold standard in third party quality control testing done on EVERY lot # of SteelEdge by Banned substance control group, look at everything they test for: http://www.athleticedge.com/quality-verified/

An added cost, but essential to the customer proving our products are clean of not just banned substances in sports, but also over 400 prescription medications, 200 OTCs, pesticide residues and heavy metals.



But the even bigger cost drivers to SteelEdge that separate it from the pack are:
1. Clinical dose of Ashwagandha(sensoril brand)
2. Sustained release caffeine
3. 750mg dose of ALC and 750mg choline
4. Proper dose of TMG, Carnosyn brand beta-alanine, not generic
5. 3 g dose of creatine
6. 6g of fast digesting Waxi maize carbohydrate
7. 4g dose of Citrulline malate 2:1 bonded, not blended. Yes there are a few products that have slightly higher CM, but having ALOT of experience with varies CM's there is huge variability in quality and ratios"s DESPITE what they say 2:1 or 1:1. And the few products that are higher, that's often not a whole else in the formula and/or the price is higher than SteelEdge.


Our thing has always been make the BEST products in the world, take a margin hit to offer them at competitive prices but we are never going to be anywhere near the least expensive, as our goals are to RAISE the standard in sports nutrition formulations and third party quality control and you can't do that on a Walmart budget.

It's a frustrating battle but it's also one we refuse to compromise on and we attract a customer that is more than happy to spend a few extra $$ for a product they are going to love and one that performs like no other. there are plenty of me-to cheap products and there is nothing wrong with that, every brand has its niche, ours has always been to make premium, un compromised formula's, peace of mind with the BSCG logo on them and put the finished formula through research studies when we can.. The end result, our products cost a little bit more.

Thanks for the huge response. I apologize for the length of my review and appreciate you reading it. I completely understand what you mean. The quality of this product beats out probably every pre-workout on the market. You have to find customers who are willing to pay more for good quality and third party tested supplements. Some people (even myself as you can see above) rush to make the comparison based simply on price per serving and key ingredients per serving. I think you are doing a good job with a very difficult task: educating the market on why your product is worth the money. If everyone knew what you just shared with me right now I think people would have a hard time choosing any pre other than Steel Edge. Getting this information out via marketing or through AEN reps on this forums will be key for you guys.
