bars are privately owned businesses, and should be allowed to refuse service to whomever they want

I can understand a bartender not wanting to serve a pregnant woman another drink when she's absolutely wasted and drunk out of her mind. But it's not the bartender's role to be playing judge.
Unless her baby pops out and starts drunk driving everywhere, it's none of the bartender's concern. Like someone already said, it's a liability issue.Hoistin' heavy-ass s**t since 2006.

I don't think bartenders should be held liable for a baby being born with fas of course. But I do think that society as a whole should be playing the judge on this one, including bartenders, waiters, friends and family of the mother etc. I think when it comes to child abuse it should be everyones concern. The child's right to not be born with fas should trump the mother's right to a beer for 9 months. Can't quit for 9 months for the sake of your child? Then don't have a child.

So say i'm a bartender. Pregnant lady comes in, talking about her day, how she hates being pregnant...I empathize with her...cave and give her a glass of wine. Keeps talking I forget she's pregnant...to busy playing therapist so I pour another. I come to after she requests a third...now, I refuse, she gets upset (not drunk) starts crying, loses her cool, get's into her car and smashes into a stop sign. or whatever.
She can sue me because my refusal to serve caused her mental distress, and led to the crash? No man is your friend

You're right...I just don't have the strength or mindset to care about some random child in New York. Forgive me for being so short sided. It's kids who get their heads caved in every single day. Kids who's parents talk to them like they're less than nothing. Kids going to bed without proper shelter, or food. In every town, city, state, province and country around the world, and this is your soapbox moment?
SPARE ME. I don't see threads on the misc talking about child abuse (it's eradication), or any abuse for that matter unless it comes from a woman.
There is a thread on the board about a judge in georgia using his authority to sexually abuse young men. The entire fuking thread was jokes, not one person took it srsly. But this one...Gotta tighten up, and let the world know how you really feel.No man is your friend

If there was a thread about any of that stuff obviously I would be dead against it to. What makes this any different to you?
Edit: as far as your edit goes, I haven't seen that thread but I've posted in other similar threads before and I do take sexual abuse on men very seriously, and it does frustrate me that those threads are always full of jokes. That doesn't make drinking while pregnant any less bad though, just because there are other bad things happening in the world also.

Why is it a bartender's job to tell her she can't have a drink anyways? If you're pregnant you know you're not supposed to drink, that's on the woman not a restaurant. Also, what happens when you refuse to serve a chick a drink because you think she's pregnant and she's really just fat? Goodnight sweet lawsuit.

Fair enough, I wasnt trying to say it causes defects 100% of the time, just that we know it does cause defects.
I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one as can't fathom how people think it's ok to do this kind of thing that can have life long effects to a child before its born, but not after.
When you have a child you should be willing to do anything in your power to keep them safe and healthy, not being willing to give up drinking for awhile isn't a great start.

Lots of women have messed up babies because they under eat. These women know that they're under eating and know that under eating is bad for the baby. So should society police them?
Hypothetical: A pregnant woman goes to a supermarket each day to buy a head of lettuce. The same cashier works there every day and notices she barely eats and it's really bad for the baby. Should the cashier have the right to refuse ringing her up unless she buys more food?Last edited by MusicProducer; 05-10-2016 at 08:29 PM.
