No one knows. He was a Cyrenian that was mentioned to be the father of Alexander and Rufus.

Why do you think god allows terrible things to happen to people? Things such as famine, war, terror attacks, floods, rape, underage sex trafficking, etc.

SRS. No snark intended whatsoever, OP. I am agnostic because as far as I can tell it is the only logical position to take. To be a deist is to say that you know that a deity exists, and to be an atheist is to say that you know for a fact that one does not. I take the position I see as most logical: that we cannot know, with our current technology, that one exists or does not exist, although obviously in the absence of evidence I side with those who defend the negative.
At its root, Christianity is based on Judaism which in turn is most likely a sect of ancient Canaanite belief.

No one believes God actually wrote a book. The Bible was inspired; the old testament an odyssey of the Israelites, the new testament a fulfillment.

No one knows why God allows anything, thought there's an attempt to reconcile God's sovereignty with man's free will through Molinism.

And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day." Genesis 1

Now it says, In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. There was darkness, and God was hovering over the earth for an undetermined amount of time. He could have been there doing nothing for billions of years, just as He had been around for eternity before creating anything. As you can see, the first of the 7 days of creation doesn't start until he created the light and allowed for the first day and night to pass. This can allow for the time for aged geography and the stars reaching their great distances
Bravo, again. This is apparently before the sky and the earth existed, ffs! So yes presuming this is literally how the earth came to be, it is unknown how long the earth was without a sun, sky, or any landmass.

But the formation of land and sea took place on the third day, and the creation of man on the sixth. Genealogy can pretty accurately take you all the way back to 'the sixth day', so the very first landmasses should be only three days older than that, if the bible were literal, right?

So all perceivable earth and ocean and sky should still be ~10,000 years old.

God is supernatural and the same biologic / scientific principles do not apply.

Are you gonna try and argue these organisms are supernatural?

You have absolutely no way to defend your position. God is supernatural? How convenient.

Ultimately, your belief relies on faith. Which in turn relies on an assumption and thus is not logically sound. As I've said, the only intellectually honest opinion is to say that we don't know whether a God exists or not, and that we do not know why the hell we exist.

I appreciate the response, but ultimately your belief is dependent upon faith and in turn upon a presupposition of the existence of a deity. Be honest: you have no way to actually defend your belief; there is no evidence for the existence of a higher power. Conversely, there is no proof in the negative, but the burden is on those making the assertion.

Again, no snark intended but your "proof" will boil down to either a) faith/belief or b) "evidence" that doesn't actually prove the existence of a god.

    Easily defend my position.

God is supernatural. At least the God in the Bible (the one I am talking). It is convenient though, not gonna lie haha God is the very definition of supernational.

""(of a manifestation or event) attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature."""

Of course my belief relies on faith, just like an atheists belief relies on faith that the world just poofed into existence.

I can not prove God exists just like other people can not prove God doesn't exists.

Common sense tells us everything observable / everything we know comes from something. Every effect has an effect.

There is no way to logically get around this for a non believer.

Unless of course you want to try and argue some matter or organisms are supernatural and not bound by the laws of nature. Good luck with that.

The world just exploding into existance and somehow morphing for millions of years from organisms and then evolving from an ape seems more illogical to me then what the bible says in Genesis.

There have been many devote atheists that are intelligent, logical human-beings such as scientists and doctors that have found Christ through near death experiences and so on. So religion isn't just for "dumb people".

From what i know, if you decide to leave doubt behind and just take a few minutes to pray and ask Jesus to give you a sign that he exists, he will show you in some shape or form.

Disagree. Everything we know about things / science / this world comes from something. There has never been an effect without a cause.

Defies the laws of nature and physics to think out of absolutely nothing, something just poofed into existence. This is not even mentioning how the dimension for where such could occur came from.

    - One of the proofs is by our testimony
Revelations 12:11 "They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death."
    - We show the goodness of God through our life personally. We also bear the righteousness of God through Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith."
    - I love praying for people and seeing the impossible become possible

From what i know, if you decide to leave doubt behind and just take a few minutes to pray and ask Jesus to give you a sign that he exists, he will show you in some shape or form.
Why are people from other religions so devout when they don't worship jesus? Surely they wouldn't stick with it if they weren't as steadfast in their beliefs as Christians?

Do you focus more on the death or resurrection? Do you subscribe to a certain atonement theory?

Skimmed through the thread and saw the young earth thing being thrown around. I just wanted to add that a young earth is a silly belief and is basically a man made doctrine. God is eternal. What has he been doing for all that time? The earth is older than you think and dinosaurs are real.

well, charles darwin was there to witness why some birds looked identical to others apart from one minor difference exclusive to that population.. so there's goes your theory.

It's inconvenient to come to terms with your own death, knowing there is nothing after. and humans are just that, human. The smartest scientist can find god because he wants to comfort and security of knowing his existence is permanent

Every single thing in existence is made up of molecules. The difference between you and a table is how fast molecules are moving and how close they are to each other. All you are is Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Hydrogen, with some other elements thrown in.

There's much evidence proving the bible is wrong, the half life of Carbon 14 is a good example which is proven by logamithritic equations. Note if you say this is false, you should pretty much throw all your electronics away because they were made using log calculations.

In the eyes of Christians, logarithms must be a creation of the devil. It shocks me you don't them protesting schools teaching their children such evil
