**Official Overwatch Thread**

With it finally being May and the game only being a couple weeks away from full release, I think we need an official Overwatch thread. There have been a couple scattered beta related threads, the last of which turned into a flame war, so this is a fresh start for long-term Overwatch discussion.

The early access beta is May 3-4th, the open beta(for everyone) is May 5-9th and the full release across PC, PS4, and Xbox One is May 24th.

For those who aren't familiar with the game or need some refreshment, here are a few vids to catch you up.

I am incredibly excited for Overwatch, a game I've been chomping at the bit to get at since it was first revealed. I hope there are a bunch of you out there just as pumped to get into the game.

Who is/was your favorite character? I played Roadhog the most during the weekend beta. He is a huge target and gets melted if you are out of position but has so much burst ability. He has an absolutely dirty kill combo on characters with < 250 health. His hook ability brings people in close while simultaneously stunning them which allows you to easily finish them with a shotgun blast and melee combo.

During the beta I almost exclusively played Pharah, Tracer, D.Va, Widowmaker, Mercy and Symmetra. Dat all-around player. Although my preference would be Hard Offense or Hard Support.

Is this a moba game like Battleborn or this is more like a straight up arena shooter? people say this is like team fortress 2 except I'ev never played that game either.

Arena shooter, i think there is alot of gameplay on youtube. Im more familiar with TF2 but its very similar:

A simple explanation is there are different classes(http://kotaku.com/every-class-in-ove...own-1656107355). You chose one, and can switch between them in the middle of rounds if you want.

Then there are different kind of maps:

Capture points: capture and hold certain points, your teams score will decrease if the enemy team has the point. If you take the point ur score will freeze and theirs will decrease.

Payload: you have to walk near a train type payload thing that will move on a traintrack, if the enemy wipes you the payload will stop(in tf2 it starts in reverse if you were away too long). There are certain checkpoints that will increase the time you have. One team defends and the other pushes the payload.

So, anyone that's played it other than OP (no offense but I don't think you're unbiased), is it worth playing if I played Team Fortress 1 and 2 for years and got burnt out on them?

I ask because I honestly don't think this looks like anything new, but I've never seen my bnet friends list so populated and every one of those *******s is on overwatch.

Thoughts after day 1 - god damn there were more noobs than the stress test. Rekt them when they were on the opposing team and got smashed when they were on my team.

Guess it'll take a bit of time to climb the ranks.


@ poster above. I bought TF2 when it first came out and put several hundred hours into it. Lost its charm to me when it went F2P and turned into Hat Simulator. I tried getting back into it years later when they had that "defense" mode where you defend against robots and had some new balance updates but it wasn't really the same. Overwatch is filling that niche for me right now and I honestly won't be surprised if it takes a couple hundred hours from me like TF2 did at launch. Is it new in concept? Eh, not really. But the execution is fresh, and the maps are fantastic.

I was blown away by how good the gameplay felt, but there's not much point in me telling you it's great when you can just download it and try it for yourself.

Having a blast. Got like 30 kills in a short round defending as Widowmaker, brb 50% of team's eliminations, got dat legendary nomination. Then as Symmetra I got 24 turret kills, i'm such a douche lol

For anyone on the fence - game is great and feels polished in terms of combat. I liked TF2 but couldn't get into it, I wouldn't compare the two considering how much variety there is in Overwatch but anyone that DOES like TF2 should love this.

First time playing the beta, GD the graphics look great. Kind of like Capcom's style.
