    BPM Resting vs. Runngin

I just got a heart rate monitor and used it for the first time today. I work out 5 times a week and run 4. My resting while getting ready was about 80 and avg while running was 170. Just curious if anyone knows if this is okay for me? Height 5'8 175 lbs.

    thanks

80 BPM while standing and getting ready is pretty realistic.

Averaging 170 BPM while exercising is likely pretty high and not sure that could be maintained for a very long period of time. Maybe your HR monitor is slightly off.

Look up how to calculate Max Heart Rate -- not with the formula 220-age, but with a cardio test. Then look up HR training zones.
