And fwiw, the site ^ was just a quick search. There is other, more comprehensive footage out there.
And OK, the truth is, that if you've heard about this (if you watch/read ANY news, lol), that this kind of thing is more commonplace than one might think. However, thr timing of this is pretty bad (for us....Obama leaving office)...and obvious.

I swear, I won't weigh-in or make any comment until after a significant number of responses have been logged. I'm truly curious about the pulse of the nation right now.

It's really an interesting and very scary time to be alive. The cabal that has been running the west has been exposed, more and more people are starting to see what's really going on and the push toward global governance by the corporatacracy. Just a few years ago, I used to think people who said things like this were a little crazy. But it's becoming more and more undeniable. So the real question is, what's Putin's endgame? Is he part of the club and this was theater, or is he thumbing his nose at the globaliats? Either way, will this show continued escalation? Will there be a global war to further their agenda and if so, is it a deliberate war, or a war against rogue states that don't want to play nice in the sandbox with the wizzards behind the curtains in the CFR, World Bank, UN and Fortune 100?

I think the Russians know our current administration is weak and will not respond other than maybe sending out a press secretary to make some stupid statement against the actions.
Obama probably already sent an official apology for having our destroyer encroach upon their air space.Semper Fi.
Just play the cards you are dealt and STFU.

There have been some pretty harrowing, deliberate encounters over the years I guess. The term 'Crazy Ivan' comes to mind. What went on underneath the oceans during the height of the cold war was pretty scary. I don't like to see these sort of things. The rhetoric out of Russia over the past 6 months or so has become awfully shrill. All the world needs is 'another North Korea' with the size and punch of the ex-Soviet Union!

This goes on frequently but it usually done from a distance. we do the same to them or at least we used to but never that close.
its not really so much to send us a message as it is to send others a message.
hey, look what we can do to american navy ships and they will do nothing about it.
When russia now comes knocking on their door they will know that they should fear them as they are the big dogs now. Lots of times it works out where countries will want a foriegn military presence to deter others from attacking them.
used to be that way with us in the UAE, we akways had a carrier in port there so others left them alone."To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Though the passes likely violated a 1973 agreement between the US and Russia and were a clear act of aggression, downing a plane likely means the death of the pilot, which was simply not warranted given the situation. The jets never did 'lock' onto the ship with any missiles. The jets also did not have visible weapons. Although, provocative.

At the very least, develop anti-aircraft paintballs and light them up.
Now if they keep intentionally violating the air space of several nations and flying in over our islands (Öland and Gotland), I say shoot one down (preferably join NATO first). This was their decision and it just feels as if someone is bitch slapping you over and over again and getting away with it. But that's not going to happen, and I may just be stupid.

Russia is not a nice neighbor! Never has been. And I guess it never will be. They're Russians. It is a beautiful country, with a rich history, and an incredible culture; the arts, literature. But they have never known how to act in public, among decent folk. LOL They're far worse than America has ever been! And we're the ignorant upstarts! Ha!

The two planes weren't shot down because they posed no real threat as they weren't armed in a way to pose a threat to the ship. This is just the Russians, like Brak said, playing stupid games. These type of encounters are not "uncommon".

The crew aboard the destroyer didn't seem too worried by the display. They took photos and video of the incident.
It worries me greatly that Russia and China now have an accord to come to the defence of each other. We know Russia is building a bridge to Crimea and I bet that bridge will be well protected. China is obviously building defenses in the South China sea and is not showing any signs of even considering backing off. Tensions are already high with US Naval ships in the area.
The US is also re-establishing a base in the Philippines, and urging Japan and South Korea to expand their militaries, also expanding their use of Australian bases and ports. The Australian Federal Government is planning on beefing up our military expansion in air, sea, land etc..
These are very dangerous times indeed and all this makes the US elections all the more interesting..

Agreed, as I noted such in my opening post. However, this was more "in your face" than most in recent years.
Oh, heck yes! No doubt about that.
Agreed. I don't think anyone in their right mind would be worried that these planes would attack, it's simply a matter of disrespect in a bolder way than in many years. Couple that with the things you've mentioned in your post above....and yes, the U.S. has lost so much credibility (well, at least, its ability to inspire fear) in the past many years. This was actually the view I was looking to see if it existed out there.
So yeah, it's the bigger picture that I look at, not this one incident. I was wondering how some here would either see that connection or overlook it. I would say it's a remarkable difference in "lack of respect" that has largely taken place during the current presidency."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

Yeah, but I'm also glad that it didn't end in a macho knee0jerk reaction that caused the death of an "innocent" Russian pilot who was probably just following orders. It should have resulted in a public protest with a President laying down the law to avoid a future such move. Of course, the whole "line in the sand" with Iran pretty much castrated us anyway, so wtf, right? Sad state of affairs.........

Very insightful!
It seems that Russia and China have really been flexing their 'muscles' at the US more frequently as of late, and like another poster said, to send a message to other nations. 'Hey, we aren't afraid of the US, they will do nothing'.
Our current administration has an extremely weak and lacking foreign policy. I'm definitely experiencing it on a smaller scale being deployed to the middle east currently. Very restricted as to what we can and can't do; cowing down to the host nation on an incredible scale.
