3) that he built himself using trees
4) that he felled with a bronze ax

Wow! I am very flattered John!! I just read in my journal about this thread, thanks so much!!
It's true I don't like to post my lifts outside of my journal much due to being a tad gun-shy, but this is great!
As you can see that was one helluva heavy lift but definitely proud of that one! I appreciate all the comments, and I thank you again John for your continued advice, support and kicks in the azz when I need itLast edited by raynerd; 04-13-2016 at 03:53 PM.

Great effort! Since this is a PR thread, I wont clog it up. Not taking anything away from a great effort, I can see a few things I would zero in on which would probably blast you right past that PR!
Only caution I would offer, is I am not sure grinding quite so much is worth the exposure to potential injury. (I tend to be kinda cautious though). The weights you are working with are significant and respect them.
Again...really nice work!RAW lifts

In Shawns defense he was testing his 1rm after running a 16 week deadlift program. I can understand the need to try and grind up that rep after the 16 week build up to it.
Oh and the dood is a sponge (like many of us here). I'm sure he'd more than appreciate any tips you have for him.Last edited by Jtbny; 04-14-2016 at 09:53 AM.

Gotcha...was not meant as a dig in ANY way at all. I have suffered a few nasty over exertion injuries deadlifting and just sharing what can happen. One was a torn intercostal (which popped and sidelined me for almost 8 weeks) and the other, believe it or not, was the only strained pec I have ever suffered. He is up in the "big boy" weights now for sure. Just expressing a note of caution.
I often wish I would take my own advice too . Every time I have ever been hurt, I knew I was pushing the limits. I have gotten a lot more cautious the past few years.RAW lifts

I really don't want to take away from Shawn's thread at all but you mentioning the strained pec made me want to ask about that. The only time I have ever felt a strain in my pec has been during a deadlift as well that is close to my max. It's happened a couple of time. It always goes away right after but I start feeling it pretty much as soon as I clear my shins. Is it a form issue? Grip distance maybe? Since you mentioned it I'd love to hear if you know what caused it or what you were able to do to fix it or readjust...
Thanks man. And Shawn hope you don't mind365 255 480 in April! ...2019

Quick response.....It just shows how much of your body engages on a near maximal deadlift. I have done it a couple times as well, and one was bad enough that it scared the heck out of me and I did not bench for a few weeks. Funny, I would often work up to what many would consider "heavy" benching sets, and never felt the slightest twinge. But a heavy dead would cause me to strain it.
It is why have come to respect the deadlift so much. I have never found anything that takes as much out of the whole body. To me it is at the top of the list of what should be the core of guys workouts. You dont get to where you can deadlift 5 plates without really building a solid back/shoulder thickness that is hard for many people.
Raynerd looks to have a solid physique. My guess his back is NOT a weak spot!RAW lifts
