how do i recover from starvation mode without gaining any weight or fat?

Im kinda confused about my weight and body fat right now, i used to be toned and defined and ate whatever i wanted but then i wanted to take it to the extreme and lower my calories. i then entered starvation mode and i waz in it for a month and a half and then was hospitalized in June for that and my diet was 80% protein which the doctor told me that was bad for me. I waz then released 3 dayz later and had to qwit lifting for 2 weeks and jus lay on the couch and eat normal calories again. I gained weight and fat but it all came off when i started lifting again and then i started eating low fat again and then the fat started to come back on a few weeks later and ever since i have been the fattest ive ever been in my life. Im confused if im really starving or am i jus hungry all the time cuz of boredom now that im out of school and lost my job? And if im not consuming enough calories what should i do get back to normal eating habits without gaining any fat, i work out 3 to 4 timez a week and do cardio evryday and play basketball evryday but i havnt really lost any pounds. I jus wanna get back to my normal self and kill all of the fat and become lean again. im 18 years old, 5'7 and currently weigh 169 pounds> Any advice on whatz goin on? i would appreciate it thanx

whats your current diet like? how many calories are you eating?

if you think you are starving, then just add 200-300 calories each week to your diet, and then eventually you should be back to narmal (or at least close to it)

    Cereal...

    Pancakes...

    Peanut Butter and Jelly Sanwiches...

Stuff like that isn't good. How about replacing the cereal with Oatmeal. You can sweeten it with Equal or Splenda. Have that and a couple eggs for breakfast.

Lay off the milk. At 18 years old, your body is basically done growing as far as your bones are concerned. Milk is a lot less important now.

Try something like this...break these meals up by about 3 hours.

Meal 1: Oatmeal and 2 Eggs (any style)

Meal 2: Some berries. Low GI type stuff. I think Blueberries are good for this.

Meal 3: Turkey Sandwich on Whole Wheat bread with mustard, lettuce and tomato.

Meal 4: A handful of mixed nuts

Meal 5: Chicken or Steak, mixed veggies (green veggies, preferably...broccoli rocks the house)

Meal 6: A can of tuna drained and mixed with some spicy mustard (disguises the flavor, if you don't like it. if you DO like tuna, just chow down on it)

Drink plenty of water. If you're hungry at a non-meal time, drink a 16 ounce glass of water and wait for 20 minutes. If you're still hungry, then chances are you need to eat something. If that's the case, a couple mixed nuts or berries should be fine. Something to keep your hands busy.

Why low fat? I notice you still eat plenty of **** carbs though. Seems very counter productive to me.

while its true your bones are pretty much done growing if you don't maintain a good level of calcium they will start to decay and you cannot rebuild them back up so make sure you get in calcium if not from milk then from something else

I have to disagree with you here. Males can continue to grow until 21 years and occasionally, even a little older.

Even if he is not actively growing, his bones will continue to remodel and strengthen at a higher rate until he is about 25. So it is important that the diet continues to be high in calcium until this age, to help set up healthy bones.

Also, what dvv said was correct - it is still important to continue to get calcuim even beyond the age as bone continues to re-model throughout life.

This is especially true on high protein diet - as, when you acidify your urine (due to higher protein metabolites) you will excrete a higher level of calcuim in your urine, even if you do drink a lot of water...
