Thumbs up Just finished my first day as a vegan (vegan brahs GTFIH)

Had an epiphany last night watching Earthlings and immediately wanted to cut out all animal products, haven't even watched Cowspiracy yet which isn't even about animal cruelty.

So I went out today and bought as much vegan food as I could find, just walking around the supermarket reading labels you could see the amount of animal products we use, it seems really excessive and I can understand why it's also destroying the planet. Kind of annoys me how ignorant I have been the whole time

I still live with my folks but they were really supportive of it. All the meat replacements I bought tasted the same if not better than the real thing. I bought Quorn chicken and burgers, had the chicken tonight and it tasted better than real meat (they did contain free range egg whites though so I guess I was vegetarian, but they do other products as well that are vegan but I didn't see any so I'll try another supermarket next time). Tbh I was never really that much of a fan of meat, food like chicken and turkey is bland unless you season the fuk out of it and things like steak and bacon are just memefoods for people to circlejerk over (just my opinion, don't get all butthurt). I pretty much ate it for the protein but then after a few years lifting I realized how overhyped it is, I've eaten about 100g a day sometimes less and it's working better than when I was eating per lb of bodyweight

Heard you start feeling better from more energy/better sleep, skin/hair gets better, etc so I can't wait to keep this up and see what happens

Also any more recipes/foods I should look out for? Quick/easy to make stuff would be great

LOL @ getting your information from agenda driven films like Earthlings and Cowspiracy.

I'm all for doing whatever makes people happy. If you want to be vegan, I'm 100% supportive of anyone that wants to make that choice, but you should do it because you're making an informed, educated decision..not because some super biased documentary told you to.

That's really awesome, guys! Good for both of you. Just a little word of experience from an ex-vegan (I still limit my animal products):

Make sure you're covering all your vitamins/minerals/nutrients. Unfortunately, I really messed myself up with a too-restrictive vegan diet; while I consumed plenty of fruits/veggies, I didn't eat enough fats, and my hair started looking like absolute crap (this was before I hair dye even touched it). I was vegan for a year and a half, but had to stop because of some bad stomach problems which, 3 years later, still exist due to not properly nourishing myself.

So basically, just do everything that I DIDN'T do: get enough fats/nutrients, educate yourself, and make sure that you're covering all your bases. Best of luck, vegan food is delicious.

Hmmm, you should totally check out this recipe for Lentil Joes, by the way - I still make it from time to time:

    http://kitchen-parade-veggieventure....oppy-joes.html

My little tweak is that I added 2 TBSP sucanat and sauteed/caramelized the onion w/ 2 TBSP vegan Worcestershire sauce before adding it to the crockpot. So. Good.

I can kinda see why you'd give up meat and dairy but there's no reason to give up eggs if you can get them from a small farm or something is there?

Still sounds decently healthy mane unless the rest of your diet has a lot of other processed stuff

I just cut meat out, I wasn't eating that much the past few months anyways. Couple weeks ago before I even watched any of those docs I got some pork ribs, was eating them high as fuk and the only thing I could think about was that I'm literally tearing the flesh from an animals bones like a fking savage. Later learned that pigs are actually quite smart (they actually recognize their reflection, while apparently dogs can't) and are emotional creatures that can feel optimistic or pessimistic depending on how they're treated which made that Earthlings doc even harder to watch. I had a cousin with a big pet pig and he was awesome, big ass black pig running around the place was fukking lulzy and he was so friendly lol

Dude it's stupid how much better you feel when you go vegan. It's a gradual thing though, so you might not even notice unless you eat meat again. I'd cut out wheat too.

I will never be vegan or vegetarian

I grew up for 14-15years on a farm and I've had cows, chickens, pigs, ect. I've killed my own food before and I've always known where food comes from. If anything at all I will find local/organic farmers to sell me meat, because I don't agree with the ways the big factories basically industrialize animal killing.

I don't think animals live's are super important, but I definitely don't think they should be treated how they are in those factories.

Edit: Also diseases that come from the chit treatment the animals receive like being fed corn instead of grass, or living in such small chitty conditions sickness can spread rapidly

I would never change to either. I enjoy eating meat too much. The one change I've been thinking about making though is to start hunting, and getting a large portion of my meat from my kills. It's a much more humane way to kill animals and with a lot of animals such as white tail deer, it's required for population control. I already own the guns/bows and shoot them regularly, so learning some hunting skills seems like a fun next step.

Because cows udders are constantly linked to those sucker things they get saw and develop blisters/sores and they ooze puss.

There is actually a government guideline that says how much cow puss is alowed per oz of milk. Wtf

    Google it, this is fact

So how much is there allowed per oz? I somehow doubt this.

no, don't get your information from documentaries...at least not all of it. Any documentary that exists has some sort of agenda...especially films like Cowspiracy, which was made by two vegans who are trying to also convince others to also be vegan.

A lot of their data is either outright false, or exaggerated to support their argument.

You can either back whatever you said up with credible links or fist yourself. Thanks.

I think the actual statistic is that you would never have more than 1 drop of puss/cup of milk...but most likely less. I realize it's a gross thing, but if you buy any food from a store(pasta, rice, canned/frozen veggies), there are bugs, feces, etc in it. There are FDA regulations on this stuff too as to how much is allowed. It comes with the territory of feeding 300+ million people. Unless you are growing/producing all of your own food, its unavoidable.

I'm all for doing whatever makes people happy. If you want to be vegan, I'm 100% supportive of anyone that wants to make that choice, but you should do it because you're making an informed, educated decision..not because some super biased documentary told you to.
I didn't even watch the whole thing, I only got through 10mins before I had to turn it off from disgust just from the footage but the first 10 mins had some points that made sense to me like specisim and treating these animals with less respect or even just killing them 'humanely' because they are less intelligent. If that's the case why don't we just slaughter stupid people and eat them too?

Either way I'm not eating meat again, I always told myself I loved animals but would still eat meat. I thought of going vegan/vegetarian but never made the effort and the whole social stigma too but now I don't give a fuk, my animalbrahs just want to live like me and be happy too.

I think of my dog who I had to put down a few months ago, she was put down in the most compassionate way possible, I gave her tons of treats and stuff before the vet came to my house to put her down and showed her as much love as possible. I told her 30mins before they arrived how much she meant to me and that she was my best friend who could never be replaced, even though she didn't know what I was saying she could sense my sadness (just like when I'd come out of work angry or had a bad day she would always try to cheer me up), I hugged her and she rested her head against me and even licked my face which she hadn't ever done since she was a pup because I was so fking sad and crying for the first time in years. I've never felt emotion like it and I've lost all but 1 of my grandparents and lost a childhood friend to suicide.

Then I think of all the animals in slaughterhouses, from some of the vids I've seen of them being even slaughtered 'humanely' you can see and hear the panic from them squealing from being packed into a crowded machine about to be killed. It's disgusting man, I feel disgusted at myself for being ignorant and continuing to eat meat

Skip to 6:13 of this video, that long screech from some poor pig doesn't exactly sound humane to me

Here's another video that ****ing disgusted me, how can you possibly still want to eat milk/cheese after watching this
