From Fat Man to 6Pacman: How To Lose The Fat and Keep The Abs

You know, its funny to me how we have become so good at consuming SO much information, yet we have so many things that hold us back from achieving what we want to do.

We all want amazing bodies, right? It's undeniable! Every single person wants to look good naked. FACT.

I mean seriously, how often does this happen to us? In fact, I'll even brave up and show an example of what guys often do when entering the dreaded "dating realm."

We know of a girl that we think is pretty cute, and we would like to ask her out on a date. So we will Google about how to ask a girl out, how to approach her, what to talk about, whatever. We even know things about the girl! What she's interested in, her sense of humor...

And yet, when it comes time to do it..

    Blank.

And this type of thing happens to all of us in fitness! We all have a goal, whether it be to lose fat, gain muscle, run a 5k, etc.

So we research.. and research.. and research.. Hell, by the end of it, we have dug so deep that we have heard theories about the best type of clothing to wear to reach that goal!

And yet, we make small attempts, give up, and then continue to wonder HOW in the world we are going to get that amazing body we have always craved.

Look. When it comes down to it, fat loss comes down to three things:
    Exercise.
    Nutrition.
    COMMITMENT.

    Exercise:
For exercise, I believe it is pretty simple: Do something you love, and put some good effort into it. You can do bodybuilding, Olympic lifting, strength training, powerlifting, ballet, WHATEVER. Just do something that you ENJOY, and be smart about it.

    Nutrition:
Once again, nutrition is simple, but it can be a bit more difficult. Download an app that can track your food intake (MyFitnessPal is an excellent choice) and input your goals. If you don't want to do that, then use a calorie calculator provided from trustworthy sources. Next, find your maintenance level, and then adjust your calories from there depending on your goals. Once again, WE ALL KNOW THIS. More energy in than energy out = gain. Less energy in than energy out = loss. So, stick with a calorie intake for a few weeks, and adjust your calories AND macros from there. You want the abs? Follow the numbers, look in the mirror, and keep adjusting.

    Commitment:
Here is where so many seem to fall. Look, I get it. Life throws some curveballs that are nastier than Clayton Kershaw's. The problem is, once we get thrown off course once, so many of us tend to just over-analyze every single detail and try to change EVERYTHING about our plan in hopes that everything will be corrected.

    But its wrong.

So many of us dream of losing the fat and looking good naked, but are not willing to commit to the work it takes. We make ONE mistake, and for some reason we just give up because everything is ruined.

Let's say you are driving around 5 hours to go see your parents for Thanksgiving, and along the way you make a wrong turn. Would you turn around, drive all the way back to your home, and then think, "All right, what do I need to do to get from here to there?"

NO! You would fix your mistake, and then keep driving. So why don't we do this for our fitness goals?

Sure its hard. Losing fat, for a lot of people, is no easy task. But if you really want a body that you can be proud of, then you will HAVE to go through some failure!
But you can't drop the commitment you made to YOURSELF to stick with a program and get results.

You want to feel confident in your physique? You want to look good naked? You want to be more attractive?
    Do something you enjoy doing.
Eat right, and adjust your intake based on what the scale and the mirror says.
    COMMIT.

You know what it takes. You have all of the knowledge.

So get out there and commit yourself to building a body you are proud of.

What has been your biggest obstacle when it comes to fat loss, or any fitness goal? How did you overcome it?
