Jesus. Mirin Hard. Why are you taking it in the Winter?

At this point, I would just identify and focus on your weakest-systems/subjects. Then do QBank quesitons until your eyes begin to bleed.

Jesus dude just consolidate to UFAP and keep lapping through them. Take an NBME cold to see where you are, then take one like 6 and ?2 weeks out to make sure you're on target. I guess if the other qbanks offer some variety it's your money..

Sounds like I'm being overkill and will chill LOL. I just started studying for step on day 1 of medical school and have pass/fail classes so I've been able to be productive.

Also still have managed tons of free time and sex so I'm not burned out at all.

Our school takes USMLE in February/March because they want us to have longer clinical rotations and more clinical experience.

I think a fair amount of people end up in medicine only to find they search for a way out. Consulting, expert witness, pharma, sounds like pure chit to me I'll just keep going to work, but I get people who end up doing something else even if just part time.

Just make sure you at least finish your intern year or a 3-yr residency. You have so much more to bring to the table with some actual training behind your belt

Is it? From the outside looking in it seemed valid to me. Studying non-stop, likely being away from family & friends, and the higher burnout numbers among single medical students.

Sounds rough tbh. And as someone who already had a rough time in my 20's, it scares me to think about spending my 30's like that.

It is when your school does nothing to improve the environment for which they are claiming to be so "concerned" about.

On another note, when did you all start UWorld in MS2?

Curious on there are any cardiologists in here or people who read the study that said heart stent procedures are getting done for significantly more patients that can just as easily be managed with meds.

To be honest, if I had the choice of a simple stent vs lifetime medication management, I'd choose the stent. Procedures are getting so far advanced that this looks to be the future

Lol this place is still around? Damn, I used to dick around on the Misc instead of doing...whatever I was supposed to be doing at my hospital volunteering thing in college.

Now I’m halfway through an IM residency. It’s tough, but it’s still better than med school. Goddamn, med school was truly horrible.

My stats on my profile were my stats in 2011. Since then I gained 35 pounds of fat, and have virtually lost all my muscle.

I’m old and decrepit now guys, but it’s not too late for you. Take my advice, stick with the gym, or you’ll wish you did.

Yes. Even being a physician can’t salvage it if you’re brown and quiet and fat.

Maybe a surgeon would fare better than a lowly IM guy like myself though...

This has been known for a while. Some of it is $TENT$ but some of it is also improving technology. Once things like IFR become more available, people will probably stop stenting non-flow limiting disease so damn much.

You mean Big Chungus? Idk. Haven't seen him around here in a while. Then again, I'm barely on the Misc these days as well.

I have a top-notch abdominal imaging fellowship secured so I'm set.

Check out Richard Webb's Fundamentals of Body CT as well. He's a preeminent figure in chest radiology, but he's written a darn good book on abdominal CT imaging.

I have a question about research vs working for med school applications. Been working as an ED tech for a few years and from the spurring of the docs and management have decided to go back to school and attempt medical school. cGPA3.6 sGPA3.0 back from 2016. Will be going for Biomed at the state uni starting autumn and am wondering during the summer if I should work my butt off saving money for school and self-study or go and apply for research positions (unpaid.) Reading back through this thread yall say research is vital but what about my hours and work experience in the ED? Any help greatly appreciated!

Tbh no one really cares about workhours in the ED. Everyone checks the box regarding clinical experience (whether you're getting paid or volunteering), and that's it. Because of this, research is the next thing you should do if you're really considering medical school. But we all know bills have to be paid and you gotta do what you gotta do. But without research, you're going to disqualify yourself from a lot of schools.

Now if you go DO, then don't even worry about research and just make as much money as possible while maintaining a 4.0 from here on out
