in all my years of med school I learned this about surgery
general surgery is full of the most toxic personalities you've ever encountered; any specialized surgery has some of the coolest"Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor."

I did well during my MS3 surgery rotation but couldn't imagine myself in the specialty. For one, I vasovagal in the OR. Secondly, the hours. Don't know how surgery residents - or surgery attendings for that matter - do it. I have no idea how I would be able to lift and have a proper diet as a surgery resident. I have hard enough of a time working 55-60 hrs/week in diagnostic rads.
Edit: Oh and I forgot about the personalities in surgery... not for me. Too malignant.Misc Med Crew

There's a big dividing line in medicine- surgery and medicine. Most people know very quickly which group they fall into without having to think very hard about it. The differences between med and surg specialties is so vast; it's like a totally different profession, mindset, lifestyle, etc. I could never imagine doing a non -surg specialty. At this point I would just quit medicine rather than do something else, srs. Do my fellow surgeonbrahs agree?
No sir, I don't like it.

Probably true.. But some medical specialty tend to have the same mind set as surgical fields. Here I'm talking about the interventional cardiologist who don't seem like they did 3 years of core IM. Most of them have surgical personalities.
TBH the only thing that turned my off about surgery is not being able to get my macros in and lift properly (srs)

I'd much rather get shat on by a horrible attending during a lap chole and then get profusely thanked by the actual patient, instead of writing about Mr. Johnson's uncontrolled hypertension and diet for six days in a row that ultimately results in him getting fatter and more hypertensive. Fuk that.
And don't even get me started on the awesome stories you hear in a regular gen urology clinic in one day. Lawd, can't wait.*Misc Med Crew*
