(1) Pathology - is it really dying out for real? Lack of jobs?
(2) With 'bama care, opening a priv prac is not such a wise choice these days for a doc, is it?
(3) do you find you have to drag / force yourself through courses that don't interest you? (Kinda still a pre-med right now and don't really like bio and calc....)
(4) semi-squirmish to see blood sometimes. Mostly horrific accidents; you can almost feel the pain just looking at it. Will it go away w/ time and seeing more cases in med sch?

i doubt knowing the animal kingdoms has helped me one day of my life. Knowing the difference between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells? Even less once you know one has a nucleus and another doesnt; evolution? What else was there in bio, i dont even remember.
Everything i do on a day to day basis is knowing how to identify a disease through physical exam, chemistry, physics and not letting someone sue me.Its my thyroid

1) Kind of, but all specialties have ups and downs over time. I doubt it will go away entirely.
2) ObamaCare will make it harder to do private practice, but they'll still be around, at least for now.
3) I did. I wasn't much of a fan of a lot of bio either... but I actually really like my specialty (rads). Most med school prereqs don't have much to do with being a doctor in general.
4) You'll be desensitized over time, don't worry.Misc Med Crew

What are the "good" overseas schools? I remember my advisor telling me there are over 20, but only a few are actually reputable.
I have seen Ross and SGU are top of overseas class, but recently got some mail from UMHS, are they any good? Or are they one of the not worth applying to schools?
I only ask because I may be able to cut 1 to 2 years off of my timescale if I apply and start there right away.

SGU, Ross, and Sackler are the only ones I can think of from the top of my head because most of the FMG/IMGs I see getting into U.S. residencies come from there.
With that said, there's a crunch on foreign schools as the U.S. opens more and more medical schools while residency spots remain relatively stagnant. If you're going into internal medicine, neurology, or similar fields which are not competitive, maybe you can consider foreign schools, but don't expect to get into a competitive academic program if that's your desire.
The other thing you have to consider is whether you might end up falling in love with another competitive field. In that case, you may have just shot yourself in the foot going to a foreign medical school.
IMO, get into a U.S. program if you can.Last edited by MakeABanana; 04-20-2016 at 10:09 PM.

With the current state of things (AOA residencies transitioning to ACGME) I would NOT recommend the oversees route. Residency seats are getting tighter and as an IMG, you are first on the list to get pushed out.
Having gone through the match this year, I noticed that a couple of the programs I interviewed with had a token 1-2 seats that normally go to a Caribbean grad, but instead this year were dropped for another MD/DO. Admittedly, I haven't sought out the exact reason behind this, but it just confirms the future outlook for that route is shaky at best.Misc. Med Crew
