Yesterday, I was okay (but not thrilled) with the Hall trade. A caller to the Gregor show summed it up perfectly: I don't like it but I understand it.
But after sleeping on it, now I am not okay with it. Just too much of an overpay IMO. I know we desperately need D but giving up Hall is just far too much for Larsson.++ Positive crew ++

well those specific defensive stats don't say much imo
all those defensive stats are rel corsi which i don't put a huge amount of stock into either, especially when comparing 2 players from different teams. i don't see a whole lot of value in comparing 2 players on different teams based off their comparisons to their teammates when we spend so much effort on defensive pairings and having the stay at home guy balance the puck moving guy. you get some artificially "loud" stats that way because you're not actually comparing players at that point
i see where he's coming from even if he is wrong

Yes, but Shero said he wouldn't accept those for Larsson. it was Hall or nothing.
it bothers me how much hate larsson is getting. hes going to be good. oilers need some help on the blue line and got a great defensive defenseman. put him on the PP and he will shine, hes got the skills to do it. never got the chance to with devils since he had heavy minutes on defense watching the top lines. Greene and Larsson were one of the top 5 defensive pairings last year.

I hate PK on the ice but hockey really needs more personalities. It doesn't need to be a side show or anything that takes away from the sport in general but PK plays his off ice role perfectly and bends the on ice rules just enough as not to cross them. As weird as it is to say this, I will miss him on the Habs, it was one of the only reasons the hatred continued to brew between Boston and Montreal.

I'm not hating on Larsson at all. I think he's a great addition to the team. I just don't think he is a true top pairing dman, at least not yet. Maybe he will become one but he's not there yet. And, at least IMO, Hall should have been enough to get a top pairing D. But I think it comes down to other GMs knowing how desperate the Oil are.
And let's not forget that this is Shero we're talking about. He has some history of butt****ing other GMs in trades - see Whitney for Kunitz and Tangradi (at the time a high end prospect, even if he didn't pan out), and Goligoski for Neal and Niskanen.++ Positive crew ++

Friedman on radio this morning regarding the deal:
“And they just decided they needed that guy. And New Jersey held on. Held on. Finally, they threw Hall on the table. And even at the end, New Jersey played tough because Edmonton is gaining almost $2 million in cap space, and the Devils said, ‘We’re taking the extra cap space. We’re not adding anything else to this."

bought out today: Korpikoski (EDM), Carle (TB), Seidenberg (BOS), Greene (LA), Jackman (NSH)
dang.
feels bad for greene cause it sounds like his body just can't do it any more, but his brand of defenseman is on the way out
kings D is a dumpster fire right now, literally no RHD on contract

Brutal. Brutal. Brutal for montreal hockey fans. I live in the city and fans are going nuts, newspapers are going nuts asking for the GM'S head. Dude was beloved by this city and though im not a habs fan I feel for em.
If this doesn't pan out and in its first year and PK has a breakout year with the Preds(which I fully expect considering their amazing line-up) Bergevin is gone. What a fkin goofball doing a straight up trade.----

I love PK but I think Weber will be a better fit with the habs and PK will be better off in a market where everyone can see just how great he is. The writing was on the wall the moment he didn't get the captaincy - announcing his donation without consulting the habs organization, branding himself PK76 (no reference to the habs) and generally creating a brand where the team becomes secondary is a difficult pill to swallow for a management group that gave PK 72 million dollars.
Players mentioning PK said "of course Doughty won the Norris, look who I have to play with" pretty much sums up his attitude. Weber bores the hell out of me but he's a 6'4'' 230 lb dman who will clear the crease and has a rocket shot. Meh.

The winner of the PK/Weber trade is hockey in America. Markets like Nashville need an outgoing personality to grow the game.
If Nashville wins the cup with Poile as their GM, the people better form a line and get on their knees.
Hes set this team up for the next decade. Subban, Forsberg, Neal and Johansen.

Dude. Shea weber has been on a decline for a while now. The only reason his point output is high is because hes playing with josi and a much improved roster in general. Dude has his worst numbers as a defenseman +/- wise. ranks in the bottom tier for puck possession, loose puck retrieval, completed passes.
He sure isnt that fast either, good luck paring him with Markov lmaoooo. MTL is gonna struggle hard and his PP output will drop in MTL.
I promise Subban will kill next year bar any injuries, was Subban easy to handle? Of course not but getting fleeced in a trade is not the answer to dealing with your problem. Canadiens are going back to irrelevancy guaranteed. This city will Decapitate the gm/coach if things dont go well next season which they wont unless they had a whole lot of players. ATM Montreal fans are going nuts.----

I think people freaking out about the Hall trade haven't seen enough of Larsson, he is very early on in his career but showed big development and potential last season. If he keeps on the same trajectory he has the potential to be the next great Dman of his generation, potential, yes, so there is a risk, and most likely NJ will look to have "won" the trade in the next 2 years but beyond that EDM could really look like they cleaned up, especially considering the low AVV contract he is locked up for.... It's a gamble play for sure, but he has the ability to make an immediate impact next season, and considering the stock pile of offensive kids EDM has I get why they did it, better than picking up a guy like Weber who is about the fall off the cliff of his decline IMO.

Still a straight up trade? A prospect who hasn't met his full potential for someone who is great offensive threat seems strange to me, like how could you not get a draft pick or something?
Still not as bad as the weber trade but this off season has provided more lulz than the last 3 years combined.----
