Title says it...
I know for bodyweight exercises people often say the best way to do more is to do more, but my question is can I benefit from doing tricep work (pushdowns, dips) or chest flyes after I do pushups? My goal isn't to build muscle, just get stronger.

These two things are strongly linked. More muscle=greater capacity for strength.
Push ups are not a great strength builder as its hard to add progressive overload, which is an essential component in getting stronger. You can add weight on your back, raise your legs etc. A bench press is easier to add weight too. Not that press ups are ever useless. My band: www.thesunexplodes.com
