I'm on the same boat as you OP. The depression hit me hard, when I finally had the chance to visit home after months of h3ll I was a shell of my former self. My confidence was just shot and I wasn't the same guy I was before.
Literally lifted like 10 times in 5 months after going regularly 5 times/week. A lot of my gains evaporated, social life evaporated, no time for hobbies, etc. Got extra sad after reminding myself that the rest of my 20s, the prime years of one's life, will be spent buried behind books and in hospitals. I decided that I just have to study more efficiently to be able to make some time for a couple things that make me happy in life, even if it's just for 1 hour/day.Will post avi following my cut crew

Never once in my life did I consider seeing a mental health professional until now. The prospect of even considering that makes me feel weak and like a failure. It's amazing how so many of my peers hide their stress so easily. There are some super humans who just find some way to keep themselves happy, how they do it I don't know.

The first year was the most depressed I had ever been in my life
Just keep trucking man. It gets better and you get used to.
It is worth it. Trust me.
Also..... Your sig..... Did I tell you that? Sounds like something I'd say."Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor."

a series of short tasks over a relatively longer period of time is life. altruistic light moves under the cover of your own darkness.. find this inner torch bearer and accompany them to the end. we all walk together, but we all walk alone. there is no understanding or purpose beyond that

when you start rolling in the money, you'll realize it was worth it

Will it be worth it? There's a chance it wont be. You'll be doing A LOT of admin work and much less effective patient care than you think. If you're very good at business you'll make a lot of money and be balling but if you aren't (which like 95% of docs are not) then there's a good chance you'll be living middle to upper middle class. The prestige/status of our field has also evaporated too, it's still #1 but nowhere near what it was 20 years ago. It's lost its exclusivity and isn't seen as that special anymore.
Problem is that docs of the past didn't have the same amount of material to learn.Licensed Medical Doctor

Maybe in the past when you didn't need social skills to get accepted.
It's hard to make a call in 2016 as ot whether or not it's worth it. In the 80s or 90s it was a sure bet. Won't really improve your dating but the money is pretty solid though.Licensed Medical Doctor
