Stay away from sodas, if you are serious about improving your body.

so i should just stick to good ol' purified water (got my own purifier) or maybe some healthy juices or teas?
The only time I drink soda is when I just feel like getting that fizzle in my tummy, hah, generally just a can of pepsi every 4 days or something but my friends told me that would reduce the effectiveness of the workout on that day but i dont know

pointless sugar and completely empty calories....if you have to have the taste go diet....or just completely stop all together. after awhile, after stopping, you'll find nothing can quench your thirst like water.

A can of soda will dehydrate you and it will take 8 glass's of water to replenish your body afterwards. 8 glass's of water to one can of soda.

My friend... I have a friend who has had a hell-of-a-time breaking his soda addiction. If you have one, just as with any other addiction, I recommend moderation first and then stopping completely unless you can handle like a soda once a week or two weeks or something (some cannot even handle that much after beating an addiction).
If you are not addicted the answer is simple (as everyone who has posted has eluded to).
I don't think one every once a week or two weeks will be a crime though.

Jay Culter and His Post Workout Shake
I don't drink soft drinks but thought this was an interesting read
"I'm really rigorous with my diet," Jay Cutler says. "I view all foods that I put into my body as serving a need for bodybuilding." Whether it's protein, carbs, healthy fats, micronutrients, fiber or fluids, Jay has his daily nutrition down to a science. That's why you may be surprised by what he consumes right after a workout.
"Right after I finish my workout, I take in about eight ounces of Coke with three scoops of vanilla whey protein in a large bowl. I add crushed ice and I eat it like soup with a spoon. Postworkout is the ideal time for simple carbs and protein."
A bodybuilder consuming soft drinks? Isn't Jay worried about the fructose (corn syrup) contained in the Coke? Fructose is known to convert more directly to bodyfat than other types of simple carbs such as glucose and dextrose. "No. I don't worry about the fructose. Eight ounces of Coke contains only about 25 grams of carbs. At my size, that few carbs gets used in the uptake to help replenish muscle and liver glycogen after a workout."
Jay is adamant that he doesn't cheat at other times of day, so this small amount of Coke is not only a reward for a training job well done, but also a benefit for reloading his muscles for the next workout.
POSTWORKOUT
COKE UP
8 oz Coke
3 scoops vanilla whey protein
(70 grams of protein)
12 oz crushed ice

I try to steer clear of sodas. About all I drink now is water, milk, green tea or very rarely some 100% fruit juice.

Key statement there, "At my size, that few carbs gets used in the uptake to help replenish muscle and liver glycogen after a workout." Jay is a pretty big guy. Im sure his body would react to those 25 grams differently than someone else.

Try to reduce drinking sodas,if i do drink one my stomach can't handle it.I think its because of my protien intake. But anyway thats just one more reason i avoid them like the plague.

I don't drink any, the only things I drink on a regular basis is water, milk and apple juice for pre and post workout. I used to drink 2 or 3 of the 12 packs a week and for the most part I was really tired the whole day, since I stopped drinking all of those I've noticed I have a lot more energy throughout the day.

I might drink a couple sodas per [i]year[/b]. I quit that stuff several years ago. Quit cold turkey, too. I used to drink 6+ cans of Pepsi per day. The thought of that makes me want to puke.
Now if I drink pop it hurts my stomach.

Oh wow I know exactly where your coming from. Up until about a year ago I drank soda like 4x a day. Once I got more serious into lifting I dumped soda completley and found that Water, Gatorade, Crystal Light, and Protien shakes especially taste much better than soda. I do have a passion for Cream soda so once a month or so I allow myself a "cheat weekend" usually when I come home from school for a weekend where I'll get fast food or a soda. Yes I know it is only hurting myself but hey we are all human, and Taco Bell is bangin!

drink gatorade over soda. Its better for you overall and minus the carbonation. Carbonation = bad. breaks down the density of your bones.

Pepsi and creatine mix.....
Interesting that I found this thread today.....the same day this guy at the gym was explaining to me what he was drinking during his workout. It was watered down Pepsi w/creatine mixed in it. He said that he does it for the energy, he stated that it is the same thing as long distance runners getting watered down soda at the little resting areas along the course (I don't know if this is true or not).
