potbelly sandwich works

so just curious, sometimes when im out w/ friends we'll go get sandwiches at potbellys (its not widespread so some people here might not have any clue what im talking about)...ill usually get turkey on wheat but does anyone have any suggestions on something better? here's a link to the menu:

http://www.potbelly.com/food2.0.html

im not really sure if its any better than somewhere like subway concerning freshness of ingredients, but i like the taste better than subway. thanks!

I eat at Potbelly's occasionally but like you said it probably is not much better than eating at a Subway, but I refuse to eat subway because it tastes like crap. The Turkey seems like a good choice, actually I pretty much only get turkey so I would not be able to suggest something else. The real problem I have with places like this is that the bread is probably not whole wheat, so not as good. Either way, its not horrible and eating it once in a while is not a big deal.

first off, bravo on the plato quote!

great to see at least someone out there is learning the classics! (ok i was a classics major and loved plato)...

you're on teh right track just by making the inquiry.

Think it all depends how it fits into your overall diet, your overall goals, lifting etc.

If you're swimming 1 mile a day or doing a ton of aerobic exercise you can probably eat that everyday and burn it off no problem.

Nutritionally its not fantastic, but it could be far worse. Its all relative. If its between not eating and eating a turkey sandwich, by all means eat it! or if its between a quarter pounder and a turkey sandwich by all means eat it!

if however its because you are being lazy, then you should try to eat something better or pre-plan meals or something. the bread is basically worthless simple carbs, the turkey is probably processed and full of chemicals.. the lettuce and tomatoe are good (assuming they are naturally grown at all) ...

to reach your goals, like everyone else here it probably requires tracking your macro nutrients and doing the best you can as far as eating properly. Potbelly is tasty.. i enjoyed it when i lived in CHi-town.. but you'd be better off with a chicken breast, some brown rice (complex carbs) and salad.

looks like you're on the right track though! weight lifting and plato at 18.. only good things can happen!

good luck
