I don't live in Germany, so anyone who does can correct me, but I feel that it is the same as it is in any Western nation.

You can ignore the problems when they aren't RIGHT at your doorstep. When it isn't in YOUR neighborhood and you can still stuff your face and put on the football game. And obviously the media ignores all of this and tries to sweep it under the rug - some people just do not know.
