My race relations professor in college taught us that colored people would rather be called black person than african american. My cousin's husband (who is pakistani) tells me that I am a racist when I call a colored dude "black guy" instead of "african american guy".
I tried explaining to him that all because a black person is from America, doesn't mean that he originated from Africa. My cousin's husband still tells me I'm wrong, so I want to get it straight from the people it actually affects, what do you prefer?
Is there anything wrong with calling someone "black dude"? Is there anything wrong with "African American"?
Edit - I'm a dude from Pakistan, I don't care if someone calls me brown dude.

I honestly couldn't give a chit. Either works.

It sounds so much more racist if you use black itself as the noun.

I do not neg other posters. If I would deem your post a poor one, you have already punished yourself by writing it.

I don't really care but please don't act like you're offending a whole race because you call a black person black instead of African-American. It's not that big of a deal.
