I always love the illumination on the front, otherwise it looks a little bland to me.
HDD Activity meaning your hard drive? I don't know what it is, but it always blinks bright white, so I took some red electrical tape and covered it and the power button. Matches my theme much better, and isn't annoying to look at anymore
-------------------------
On another note fellas, a friend asked me to do a build for him for under $1500. Gaming only, and he'll be running 1080p @ 60hz (lol). His current computer can't even run that.
This is what I came up with:
PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t7xFCy
Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/t7xFCy/by_merchant/
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($235.99 @ B&H)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($137.37 @ OutletPC)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($79.99 @ Jet)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.78 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X 8G Video Card ($639.99 @ B&H)
Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($117.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1477.96
Would anyone do anything different?
I figured i5-4690k is sufficient for gaming. 1080 will absolutely kill his needs and "futueproof" him. 16GB ram is standard. 1TB HDD (pretty sure he already has one), 250GB SSD, the GOAT C70 case, 750w PSU.Last edited by PositiveCrew; 12-25-2016 at 01:55 PM.

I can (sort of) play this game too since I have it's little bother, the 350D
No idea how the window has got so scratched since it's up against a wall but I'll replace it when we buy a place and it moves into the man cave and on display.
The 5.25" bay now sits flush - a 5.25" to 3.5" adaptor caused it to stick out like in the pic but I've filed it down since.MFC

Well I have 16GB DDR4 in quad channel, so using a small portion of that to speed up my main OS drive doesn't seem like much of a loss. I'm not sure what data could really be lost in the event of a power failure.. I mostly just use the system to play games and surf the web. If I were doing some kind of mission critical work with it I'd be more concerned.
Any idea why the 850 Pro can do rapid mode but the 950 Pro (and now the newer 960 Pro) can't? I have a 950 Pro and it rocks out at around 2600MB/s.. would love to see it running at 10x that speed, lol."That boulder is too large. I could lift a smaller one."

I love the C70. I've thought a few times about replacing it but I really don't need to.
My only gripe with it is how difficult it is to remove the front filter. You have to remove both side panels, and then the front one to pull it out. On the 350D it's the same as the 750D
I run a Noctua cooler on my NAS build. Only reason is because I wanted to mix it up from the usual Corsair stuff I usually buy.MFC

I remember you recommending moving the HDD to the top ages ago, not sure why i never did it tbh, would look so much better. Only thing is, i might get another hdd soon. Its either add another 2-4tb drive, or remove the 1tb thats in it now and replace with a new larger one.
Yeah the cables definitely need sorting out. I dont know how they got like that lol, i guess just me getting lazy every time i upgraded something.
Thats what it looked like when i 1st built it. Still not great but a lot better.
I want to strip everything down, clean it all and rebuild it while ive got some time off. My fans are filthy as well. If i end up doing that then ill definitely tidy everything up.
But still, at the end of the day, theres a massive fuking noctua in there destroying any hopes of aesthetics lol.Hairy chinese kid

you could always pull the optical drive out and use an external one, or buy an enclosure if you want 2 drives in the 5.25 bays
with that done, pull the HDD cage out and route the cables (via extension cables if necessary) around the top near the drives.
That's what I did. you don't want to see the back of my case!MFC

Is there a noticeable different between 16gb and 32gb ram when gaming? Not sure if I should get more. Also, can you buy thinner cords for a graphics card? The ones I have for my 1070 are thick as **** and hard to cable manage with them.

Yeah the back of my case is awful too lol. Cant imagine what yours is like considering how tidy the front is.
Ill have a look at some ext dvd drives, definitely need mine for now as i like to rip cd's/dvd's occasionally.
Anyone been getting any good games on this steam sale? I feel like steam sale isnt as good as it was 2/3 years ago. Maybe its just because i dont like the look of the new games and i got all the old ones on 75% off 3 years ago. Havent purchased anything on sale this year i dont think.Hairy chinese kid

Just did a massive upgrade on computer. Now what sound systems do you guys use for your computer speakers DAC? $200 AUD to spend. Can dish out a bit more ($300) since i spent a lot on the new desktop system and might as well go a bit further prefer under $200 AUD.
Thanks.
Currently have the Audio Technica m50x and DT 770 PRO.https://bandcamp.com/singularity7 - Music collection. Recommend albums. Always looking for more.

just want to chime in and say get 16 GB ram these days. it's not hard to use close to 8 gb these days. 8 gb is not future proof.
in addition, get ddr4 3000+ mhz ram. some games depend on ram speed, like overwatch, as crazy as that sounds (google overwatch RAM reddit). it is reasonably priced around $90 for 16 gb of 3000 mhz ram.

Update on the AMD Relive situation. I disconnected my 3 x 1080p QDOT panels, and hooked up my LG 4k panel. Now I can record everything (though 4k is still limited to 30 FPS). So, Eyefinity appears to be totally unsupported, and probably also having your monitor set above 60hz seems to break it. Kind of limiting for someone who just bought 3 QDOT panels.. lol.
