Am I the only person that thinks letting in 100,000 Syrian refugees into USA by 2017

Is a horrible idea? Yes, 99% of those refugees are probably innocent people affected by war, but how well can we screen them? If even ONE of those refugees turns out to be a militant or ISIS supporter and hurts American citizens, it is a massive failure that could have been prevented.

I'm not sure of it's legitimacy, but I read a statistic that 70% of the refugee pool is young men of military age.

Do you really believe ISIS would not take advantage of the situation and send in extremists and supporters of their cause that could pass a thorough screening?

In light of the Paris attacks and the fact that one of the militants had a Syrian passport and was booked in Greece, this is almost a certainty.

It blows my mind that our government would not see this and adjust following the recent attacks.
Not a fan of the "****in liberals" or libs gonna lib type of hate but many proclaimed liberal/progressive people at school and on social media insist that the government will be competent enough with their vetting and processing, but I find this ridiculous.

It pisses me off that the world basically assumes every country should take hundreds of thousands of refugees without any protest. A certain world organization insisted that 100,000 by 2017 "wasn't enough". Honestly, I usually get a lot of hate for this at school but I really believe the refugees aren't this countries problem, we should be focused on the safety and wellbeing of Americans and every other countries people should be a lesser priority.

Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the refugees and it is a horrible tragedy but even potentially putting Americans at risk is a horrible idea and should not happen.

I see what your saying but you missed the point, Bishamon. I get they will be willing and happy to work but the difference is that there isn't a massive, complicated war with an extremist organization hostile to the entire West in Mexico. There is a far greater risk of 1% or less than 1% of the immigrants being a part of ISIS or ISIS agents and this a real threat to American citizens.

It's not fair for them. Taking in 100k refugees won't make a dent in the reduction of human suffering and it will cost taxpayers a lot of money, plus the possibility of importing a couple terrorists out of the lot. Not worth it.

u have 3-4m muslims...when was the last legitimate islamist attack on US soil with any logistical complexity??? And pls dont quote Tsarnaev...he was a Chechen fanatic whose cause has greater roots in nationalistic pride than militant islam. The muslim population in US and Canada is already highly integrated and middle class. Any idiot driving through new jersey can see that. Couple that with American culture being practically colorblind with elements which can appeal to any racial group and u will begin to realize there is no better place in the world in which immigrants can integrate with greater ease.

Europe, on the other hand, is really made up of multiple different sovereign states with vastly different cultures and approaches to integration and thus experiencing varying results. Germany seems to be doing very well, but then their integration of eastern immigrants goes all the way back to the ottoman empire. France is a fukkin HUGE MESS with immense amounts of inequality along with ethnic and religious tension bubbling under the surface. They've tried to attempt aggressive upholding of the ideals of a secular republic but the aggressive legislative measures (chit like banning of the hijab) has been met with very mixed results...the chaos unfolding now dates all the way back to 2005 when north african young people began rioting over poor economic opportunities and chitty living conditions. The UK is pretty much slap bang in the middle of germany and france progress wise. You tend to have muslims within various social strata from the working class in the north to the affluent arabs in London.

LOL Syrians arent impoverished. They're just refugees. Poor and refugee are actually two different things and shouldn't always be conflated.
