The operation of the clutch is the same in reverse as in first gear.

My CTS-V is a 6-speed stick with reverse on the upper right next to fifth. It's easier for me to start out in second gear unless I'm on a hill. I still grind or stall about once a week, lol.

One reason I like to start out in second is my car has this annoying feature called Skip-shift, where as I'm shifting out of first it will force me into fourth unless I have the RPMs up really high. It won't let me shift from first to second or third unless I'm racing the engine. If I start out in second, it doesn't do that.

My Camaro had Skip Shift (locking out 2nd gear at low rpms) as well, I quickly bypassed that feature. There is also a lockout on reverse if going over some mph, so you don't make that mistake.
