This assumes Mars is a real place. Which it isn't. But even if it was, most of our most vital resources (food, water, wood) are replenish over time. The finite things are mostly what we use for energy, which over time, should certainly change.

I'm a bit lost

So earth's resources are finite but we should travel to another planet where there's barely water and no signs yet of any other useful resources. Makes sense I guess. The money it would take to travel to another planet harvest, build, develop what it would take to make mars resourceful could easily be put to use on Earth into newer better advances in things like energy.
