    Spartan race training

    I've been a powerlifter a strongman and now as I've gotten old or older I'm moving on to a new goal. I want to do a Spartan Race in 2016 so I decided to start a journal here. My cardio isn't the greatest so I really have to improve that and I'm looking to add oly lifts to my training and I'm terrible at that.

    So here is my training so far:
    10/20 50lb sandbag carries up and down stadium stairs 10 trips
    10/22: 1 mile run followed by 13 pullups,25 pushups,38 air squats and finished with another 1 mile run
    10/23: practiced squat snatch with 105lbs.

    10/26: Deadlifts 210 x12, Hang cleans 95x9 jerks 95x6 for 5 rounds. Its not heavy weights but the constant movement shows that I need alot of conditioning

    Looks like you're on your way OP. Make sure you include a lot of pullups, they help with climbing things a lot. That plus sprints and your normal lifting stuff and you'll be golden.

    IMHO...I would suggest you incorporate burpees into your workout.

    RARELY will one don't fail any obstacles...if you're used to doing burpees, and do them quick. You can move on to the next obstacles quicker.

    I ALWAYS miss the stupid target by a FEW INCHES!!! At the last Killington Beast (Sept 19), they had 2 spear throws...and one was, literally, in front of the finish line...it sucks!!

    So yeah...instead of finishing the race with a cool rope climb or high wall (where everyone are watching)....we all did burpees =(

    11/11 Deadlifts 225lbs/Beginning handstand pushups:2/2 4/4, 6/6, 8deadlifts 4hspu
    5 minutes rest then
    power cleans 155lbs/air squats: 2/2, 4/4, 6/6, 1 clean
    doing these rounds better get me in some kind of condition cause they are brutal on me

    it is not a pretty site lol. It's a beginners hspu feet on bench go up to a v and do a pushup. Hits the shoulders very differently can't imagine the real thing. Once I get that down I'll do them with a band around ankles.
    11/12: Clean and press each one/ ring dips:2/2,3/3,4/4,5/5,6/6, ended with just 7 clean and press

    I had a friend train for one and he spent a ton of time doing road work (mostly up to 5ks) and spent a ton of time on pull ups, wall climbs.
