So in my heat transfer class this Asian guy made a 105
I was in the average portion of the bell curve.
This guy has been in all my engineering classes and always makes these grades.
Kind of pisses me off, cause the prof is Asian and you could tell they were winking at each other as the guy received his test. The prof even told him "good job"
And let me tell you, this prof never gives positive reinforcement.
I don't mean to stereotype but wtf do these guys do to make these grades? Pls explain.
I'm sure if I studied 24/7 I could make that grade but I don't want to.

Like you said yourself he probably studied a lot. If you want to get good grades and care about actually learning then start studying more, or go ask him about the problems you don't understand.
Teacher winking at him? lol, prof is probably happy to see someone who actually wants to learn the subject and is putting in the effort to exceed at it. After all, if he's a professor he was probably in those same shoes when he was younger.

Probably this, or he has a better knowledge retention capacity than you, or he simply engages with the material at a higher level and greater intensity than you do while studying.

You don't get good grades because you are entitled to them. You get good grades not from entitlement, but from dedication, hard work and continued effort when everyone would understand if you gave up.

Yes I get that. I actually am proud of this guy, I'm happy for him honestly.
I just wonder if people like this are lacking in other areas due to their dedication to one thing.
I'm of the belief that there needs to be a balance in one's lifestyle. You can't focus entirely on one thing because then you become deficient in other areas.
This is why I hate the grading system. Yes good grades are good but there's too many variables that goes into why someone makes a good grade. Grades only matter while you're in school, they won't help you in the real world, where even the smartest people can fail. All colleges care about is number games.
What really defines us as successful? A score on a test? Or being enlightened a little in all aspects of life and growing as a whole person.
