    I would guess it's more mobility. I do hammy stretches but they haven't helped. But the problem can start at 315 but I can rep in the 500 range.

    I do carry a lot of weight in my gut doe.

    Not definite, could be torso impinging quads due to a narrow stance. Could try turning the toes out a tad more.

    Toes out -> knees follow -> hips a bit more open = your torso can sink between the thighs. But you might just be too big to do that, in which case embrace Brian Shaw

    Oh I'm more 260. I just put 242 cuz of weight class. But yes. My pudgy belly is definitely a part of the problem. :-P

    Anyone do any tempo work?

    Trying out some 3 second down, 3 second up benching. Not quite sure why, but could help with tightness and more consistent pressing to help lockout.

    I give 303 tempo squats to my lifters that have bar path or tightness issues. They hate it.

    It's weird though. I tried the toe thing and have to get damn near duck feet to pull it off. I can pull sumo nearly toe to plate and not have to duck feet.

    I actually went and dug up the Brian Shaw/Super Training gym video. And listened to what he said bout how he figured out his stance and all that. Actually helped me a bit. I was finally able to get the bar to scrape my shins!

    It makes sense, the main thing is how open your hips are. The more open the more room to push the torso between the legs and arch the lower back.

    With sumo your hips are already wide open. But with conventional if you point toes forward they are pretty closed. Once you point toes out you open them. Kind of like a bad girl machine.

    Isn't another reason they conventional deadlift with a wider stance because of stones also? I don't think most people should really mimic how they pull though. Plus, Shaw is crazy strong but his form is pretty crap.

    One thing i interdasting I've picked up from the Westside podcasts is something I thought was my own unique problem (since no one else seems to know what causes it nor its solution) is what seem to be tight hams, but are actually tight hip flexors and quads, which "long lock" the hams.
    Stretching the front can help the back, we're three dimensional people.

    Lmao, this is what i was thinking. The man pulls the bar in a straight line with a neutral spine and has his scapulae over the bar, never lets the bar get away from him etc. I don't think there is anything wrong with that kinda "crap form".

    Mind blown at the gym just now. Dude unracks a squat high bar, starts the descent, about 6 inches down he shrugs his shoulders so the bar pops off, catches it low bar about a foot down, goes down another 6 inches low bar and finishes the half rep this way, gets to the top shrugs the bar back to high bar placement then racks.

    It was 275 pounds too not a lot by standards in the thread but for a random gym idiot enough to fuk his chit up. Wish i got a vid but that was his last set.
