Is losing fat and building muscle at the same time a myth?

I have seen a coupple of posts saying it is possible, and that the rule of thumb is just to simplify things for beginners.

Depending on how far you are into your training. Newbie gains absolutly you can. When you have an untrained CNS its almost miracles. Ya weights burn caleries but not as intense as "proper diet" and "cardio"

Basically to answer your question....Muscles grow on calerie intake. You lose fat on lower calerie intake.

If you intake more caleries then you burn you gain weight (grow muscle?)
If you take in as much caleries as you burn you stay the same (maintenence)
You burn more caleries then you take in you lose weight (cutting...)

How do you expect to grow muscle mass on low calerie intake?
