Care, those leveraged commodity plays are really only good for day trading, can get smoked in the mid to long term.

Sold off some BAC and picked up a few hundred shares of NSU. Profitable mining company that issues a dividend, a few hundred million in cash with absolutely no debt, and a $1.3 billion market cap. Also has newly acquired assets to develop which should lead to future cash flows. This is likely a 3-5 year hold for me.

Has some political risk due to mine locations.

at one point i was down 600-800 between all my accounts in my 3x gold etfs, but held on and cashed out for about a grand worth of profit when it peaked.

i am pissed though, i held 300+ shares of jnug overnight, was in somewhere in the low 5s and it was 7.07 or something when i went to bed at 4 am. I had no day trades left so had to hold it or would have got cucked by pdt rules. passed out at 4 am and saw gold was 1160+ per troy ounce and thought i would be sweet. woke up at 11 am like a true cuck and saw gold was down in the 1150s, missed out on 500-600 worth of profit but cashed out some of my other positions. could have made close to 2 grand but only made like 600, feels pretty ****ing bad man. also still holding like 3k worth of these etfs, really hoping volatility allows it to go up into the 1160 range so i can exit for a great profit.




on another note, i entered into a lot of tech companies friday with the gold gains - nvda (already up like 250+ profit from a while back since i got in when it was in the 60s), amd (made a good amount last year on it), ***, intel, bought some more amazon and also entered a few banks - jpm and bac. looking to enter usb and goldman when i get some more capital.

also, is anyone in on the canadian cannabis stock boom at all? i made roughly 4-500 in october-november with relatively small positions between TWMJF (canopy growth), APHQF (Aphria) and ACBFF (Aurora).

I'm seeing support around 6.63 for TWMJF, 1.53 for ACBFF and APHQF I am not quite sure where the support is. it is worth looking into since the legalization report that came out was positive, but it may be pushed back from Spring of 2017 to further down the road so these are more long term bets. a lot of swing traders go in and out of these weekly from what i've seen as well.

I was looking into a long position in weed stocks. But first starting with Canada since their marijuana laws are much more lax compared to the US.
No point in investing in weed companies based in the US since marijuana is still illegal on the federal level.

When I was shopping around for brokers, none of the reviews I read had them in their top 5 fwiw. TD Ameritrade, Scottrade, E-trade, RH, and Schwab were the usual favorites.

Great question and one I have been wondering about myself. Here on KNBR I always here Tom Tolbert advertising REIT's but I always asked myself if he is just doing a paid segment but has no actual involvement, or if he genuinely invests in REIT's.

As to the, "why not", that's not a great thesis lol...

I'm not too bullish on REITs right now personally, but I'm by no means a REIT specialist. Here are some things you should look into/think about moving forward.

I wouldn't say owning REITs is inherently good or bad. From a correlation perspective they don't trade like other alternative assets really. They probably offer a diversification profile similar to a lot of utility names. My only piece of advice is to do your homework and figure out what a REIT really is prior to buying it, or if you want to be lazy just find a REIT fund and call it a day. Figure out the difference between equity and mortgage REITs, also think about the types of buildings you want to be exposed to. Recognize that REITs will get hurt more than most with rising rates. Understand why their dividends are so high (legally obligated to pay a large x% (can't remember #of head but the vast majority) of income back to shareholders in forms of a dividend to maintain their favorable tax status). The vast majority of publicly traded real estate companies are REITs, which as mentioned above their return is primarily a product of dividends and not cap gains due to the fact that they legally can't reinvest the vast majority of their earnings. A much smaller % of the publicly traded real estate firms are called real estate operating companies (REOC), they don't have REIT status and typically reinvest earnings in new buildings, trying to expand and return cash to investors via cap gains. You could also look into the difference between an UPREIT & DOWNREIT, the vast majority of publicly traded REITS are the former, and allow for a 1031 exchanges into partnership units, I can't even recall the properties of a DOWNREIT. Basically they're just the structure in which the REITs are legally formed.

Reit always look juicy because of the big dividend, but right now given the current market your money is better parked elsewhere. I think they should only make a small part of your nut.

O is safe for the most part, ARCP if you wanna get crazy.
