I don't like how Ronnie and Phil look, sure they're big but in my opinion they've lost proportionality.

If it's about conditioned size, then why didn't Dexter or Wolf win? They both carry more conditioned muscle than Phillipe. It's not the same as Dorian/Ronnie at all, because both those guys were impressive in many ways. Heath gets dwarfed standing next to gymrats and is narrower than the physique guys with the gut of a powerlifter. He's a ****ing mess and every year he gets worse.

Hey I'm not defending every call out and placing, wolf had the size and conditioning, Dexter lacks size, it's hard to explain, but pictures don't do Phil justice, he has so much thick muscle and full round muscle bellies.

But I'm comparing Phil to the 5'8 buck 65 pretty boys competing in Bermuda shorts.

The two aren't comparable in anyway.

You may prefer one physique over the other, but in terms of the sport Phil is light years ahead.

The only analogy I can think of is you may prefer a vintage 1970 Porsche, you like the look, you like to drive it, it appeals to your taste, but you're out of you mind if you think it can win a race against an F1 car.

Lou and Arnold were certainly bigger. Went and looked at the pics from 75, I think Serge looks better than Lou but that's just my opinion. Arnold of course looked great.

Of course by today's judging standards and requirements, Phil heath would trash this guy. He doesn't come close to the size needed to be taken seriously. ****, if Arnold came around now a days the exact same size he was in his olympia days, he wouldn't even be taken seriously.

I think what people want is a new set of judging standards which draws less attention to size, and more attention to aesthetics symmetry and proportion.. In which case Phil would get his arse handed to him.

Bodybuilding is a subjective sport you bunch of imbeciles, not one type of body is better than the other, it depends what you are looking for, and a large proportion of the fitness community now are starting to favour the idea of a smaller more aesthetic type of physique. Therefore to meet demand they introduced the classics.

This whole discussion actually epitomizes what is wrong with body building today, most bodybuilders and fans are a bunch of fukin potatoes.

Agreed except for the last line. The conditioning the top 4 guys at the Olympia had this year was great. Way better than last year.

I agree with some of what you said, but the physique guys would get killed in the open class.

First and foremost it's always been size and conditioning.

They're not looking for the next abercrombie and Fitch model.

People bitched about Dorian beating Shawn Ray but Dorian dwarfed Shaw ray.

People bitched about Ronnie during his rain, they complained about his gut, but IRL his gut wasn't that bad because the rest of his physique absolutely crushed the rest of the line up.

Yup. I was one of the people crying out for a physique like Phil's during Ronnie's reign. That's why I'm glad Dexter won an Olympia and that Phil is the current champ.

It's about the overall package. Wolf has glaring weaknesses and muscles that aren't fully developed whereas Phil does not. Dexter was a little tighter than Phil, but Phil was pretty on point and basically looks like a bigger, thicker version of Dexter, so he wins.

Can def tell you're a Phil hater though. Lol @ calling this the "gut of a powerllifter" (yes we know some powerlifters are aesthetic, but we know what you're talking about, too)

Serge had a very slight build with not much width, the front double bi serge's lack of width, legs and lats becomes apparent.

Arnold said of himself in one of his books that he (Arnold) doesn't look particularly muscular whereas Franco does but when Arnold hits poses he described himself as opening up like an "accordion".

To me Serge looked to have the opposite effect, he looked very underwhelming in some poses.

These are my favorite type of bodybuilding pictures. To have access to Charles Lowthian's entire camera roll compiled into an album would be so epic. He always gets these unreal backstage/candid pics from a real perspective that shows just how impressive these guys are. That's an "off" Phil and you could probably barely pinch a piece of skin off that lower posterior chain.
