He just won his 5th straight olympia. Honestly, I have him at 5 amongst all time greats behind ronnie, yates, arnold and jay cutler. Though haney has 8 titles, his competitors were not as tough as phil's. I have to still put arnold up there in front phil simply because he is the godfather of bbuilding. I still have jay ahead of phil also simply because he is the most consistent bodybuilder ever by ranking at least 1st or 2nd at mr olympia for 11 years straight. Where do you guys rank phil amongst all time greats?

Top 10 for sure, but not top 5 material imo( now or never), he just isnt dominant enough.
The likes of Sergio, Arnold, Haney, Dorian,Coleman even Cutler had contests in which they won as soon as they took to the stage.
Phil doesnt have the necessary frame or size to ever obliterate the competition like the guys above did in their day.Last edited by RobberBaron13; 09-20-2015 at 01:24 PM.

He's obviously amongst the greats, but I have trouble putting him in the top 5 because IMO, he never had a dominant victory...he kinda tied for 1st 5 times in a row, but tie breakers went to him. If Kai, Dex, and Shawn took one in th
Jay was gifted one, but Jay also looked insane in one (quad stomp), Ronnie was, well he was Ronnie, Arnold was Arnold, Haney has 8, and He crushed his era.
Its hard to put Heath over Dex for me, Dex's body of work is top 5 material.
This isnt Phil hate, its just what I think,The Dark Knight...Rises.

Sounds about right. I also go with top 10 but not top 5.
Even though Jay won 4 to Phil's 5, it's like people said, 11 years straight so 1st or 2nd not to mention that he battled arguably the GOAT all those years and then finally beat him.
I think Jay's '09 package is also one of the greatest showings of all time which definitely has merit among ranking.THE LEVRONE 2016 MR. OLYMPIA COMEBACK

Phil is great even with all his insecurities and feeling the need to stick it to his "haters". His 2011 physique is likely one of the best physiques all time but nobody can argue that Phil has gotten lucky in being gifted(no pun intended) a couple Olympia wins(2012, 2014). He has had tough competition though with Kai, Rhoden, Wolf, Dex, ect. I'd say he is a middle of the road champion that he is likely top 6-8 all time and would be taken much more seriously if he didn't come in off as often as he has. As a Mr. Olympia, he should be on top of his game each and every year. It's too bad nobody has come in good enough to sway the corrupt judges enough.
Progressive overload + progressive eating = gains. Simple as that!

His career isn't complete yet so it's kind of a moot to rank him among greats. When he wins 10 then you can make comparisons
Spike92 is 15.
^ place this in your sig to remind the world that Spike92 is indeed 15 and will never be anything other than 15.

I agree career isn't over, but lets assume he doesn't win any more Olympias. Only 4 other people in the sport have more O titles than him. By that benchmark he's in the top 5 club. That being said he's never been dominant. None of Phil's showings have ever induced the reaction (and fear in his competitors) like what Ronnie or Dorian or Haney produced year after year. Arguably Phil's best showing is still below Dorian's best showing, and that's 20 years later. The "sport" has regressed. There are showings buy guys who competed in the 90s who would crap all over Heath, and those guys also never won Olympias.
I'll also rank Jay Cutler way ahead of Heath if Phil quit today. Jay doesn't have as many titles but he finished 2nd and pushed RC to the extreme in the 2000s so many times. And there's the 2009 Jay showing which also stomps anything Phil has shown in his career thusfar.__________________________

I'm not a huge fan of the Golden era of bodybuilding physiques other than really Arnold.. "If we talking winners".. They just weren't impressive to me. Didn't care for Dorian either. Haney, Dex, Phil, Arnold, and Coleman in no order.. Phil ranks up there just fine for me.

Lmao against all odds = not getting likes on ********.
But to answer OP, I guess it depends. I would have dexter (consistency, longevity, and as cedric would say "representing an ideal"), Ronnie, dorian, lee, and arnold in front. If you consider competitiveness, or I suppose other reasons, you can put jay ahead of him. Then there's other legends who wouldn't beat phil's best, like levrone, flex, shawn (shawn would put up a good fight tho that'd be interesting to see...), but presented amazing physiques which make them greats in their own right. There's plenty of other non olympia winners who have paved the way. I would put phil in top 10 personally for me he'd be at the bottom of the list but if you think reasonably, and Im not the most reasonable person, then he could be #5-7. I guess on my list, with dex and jay, and without shawn, flex and levrone, phil would sit at #7.
And also, good point above. I don't see creating a legacy as number of O wins. Guys like levrone have a legacy. Kai imo has a far superior physique and his presentation is top notch he's a very special bodybuilder imo so yeah I guess for MY top ~10 kai would have to be in there above phil So phil is #8.Last edited by mike8190; 09-20-2015 at 07:35 PM.

I kinda see him as the Klitscko of bodybuilding. A champ for many years But against lesser completion (no offense). I mean really would he have stood a chance against Flex Wheeler in his prime? could he have endured the crushing size of Sonbaty OR THE fULLBLOWNESS OF lEVRONE?
Or the lights out baby of king Coleman? it's just like boxing he is a great champ and no one of his generation has had enough to take him out convincingly (bar Kai). In all fairness Heath is the best of his time, I will give him that. But for me Coleman/Dorian/Flex/Sergio/Arnold/... TOP 5 NO but top 10 sure why not.Smarten up? NO! SPARTAN UP!

Top 10 for sure. If he can be dominant more than ever and win a few more Mr. Olympia titles, then he will be Top 5.
