any UFC fight fans here?
anybody going to watch the fight tonight and cheer the old man on? randy couture age 43 came out of retirement to challange tim sylvia age 30 for the heavyweight championship. couture is a young man compared to most of us but in the fight game he is a old man. for those that don't know sylvia is 6'8" 255 pds. this will be a real challange for couture. he is a old school wrestler who got into mixed martial arts. he thinks he can take sylvia to the mat and ground and pound him. sylvia is a stand up fighter who knocks people out. i say couture takes him. i have to cheer for the old man and i like ground and pound. i got PPV ordered and the coffee pot on ready to help us old folks stay up and watch it. any thoughts or opinions on it?

The old fart in me wishes that Couture could win and keep on winning but I know that isn't going to happen. I actually hope he gets beat pretty quickly and then stays retired instead of being another Ken Shamrock who has become every ones punching bag recently. It degrades those whom I see as legends and cheapens the sport.
Bottom line Silvia will just keep on sprawling until he gets the chance to knock couture out. 2nd round TKO nightie night Randy.

i agree with your assessment. that is likely how it will go. i am just hoping i guess. i would like to see couture win and then retire on top. i just don't care for sylvia. he is good but so awkward and boring in a way. it don't really matter as crocop will take the title soon anyway. shamrock in his time was a great fighter. time and styles passed him by and age just caught up with him.

I'm a big UFC fan! Yes, I hope Couture win it tonight. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see it. My buddy is ordering it on PPV tonight, and I usually go to his house to watch the PPVs, but I have a family committment to attend instead.

I will be watching tonight and pulling for the old man. I think he has a better chance of beating Sylvia than anyone has, including Arlovski (who I though at one time was unbeatable).
Couture is more aggressive than Sylvia in my estimation and has a better take down game than Sylvia has ever encountered. Sylvia, however, always has a "punchers chance".
It should be a great fight.

I'm going to order it on the dish tonight too ( $40, that hurts ) but it should be one of the best yet with all the good matches they have scheduled. I've got my doubts Couture will win but it should be interesting as long as they don't walk around in circles all night not doing anything.

Don't worry about spoiling it somebody usually has all the fight videos up in the MMA section as soon as it is over which makes me feel like chump for spending 40 bucks for the fight.

Big UFC fight fan here.
I still do some MMA sparring so you know I am cheering for the old man! He is 2 years older than me, he is prolly going to get knocked the **** out, but I will be routing for him.
I think the big man weighed in at 265lbs, and those two are friends who have trained together... but you know what they say "Old age and treachery wins over youth and skill everytime"
I'll be watching it on PPV too.

Please do! If you feel more comfortable with a PM, that's fine! Also, feel free to let us know the results of the Matt Hughes and Rich Franklin's fights as well. Thanks Bro!!

i agree. good card all the way through. fighting tonight- matt hughes, rich franklin, babalu and matt hamill.
my brother has a dojo and teaches shootfighting. he fights and trains several mixed martial artist in no holds barred and cagefights. i have dabbled a bit myself in a few styles and done some specialized training with him in his style. mostly i focus on gutterfighting which is kind of a mix between krav maga and military styles adapted for street use. to old to play around these days i like to know how to neutralize any agression directed toward me quickly and efficiently.

I don't like Sylvia or Couture. Although I think Couture is the better fighter. I'm waiting for Cro-cop to get his chance at the title.

I have to agree with Chipman and Tatdawg, I would love to see Couture standing over Sylvia's K.O.ed and bleeding body! but I dont think it will happen, and Syliva being a borning fighter, tatdawg.. He is without a doubt the most boring fighter in the UFC.. he could damn sure take a few lessons on "how keep a crowds attention" from Griffin...

Couture is one of the toughest 43 year old's around, but Silvia gets better every fight and gets smarter every fight. Even though I would like to see Couture win, I think Silvia has more of a total package and will win.
Silvia's kicks to the head get faster and faster and his striking skills have improved a lot.

sylvia is so tall and has been taught to keep his shoulders up and chin down so it makes him look awkward. i think is one tough sob for sure. he got his arm broke refusing to tap. i just see his fights as boring. no matter cro-crop is on the scene. if fedor ever comes over they can all slink away. fedor is the man or machine maybe.

Did you guys hear that former WWE Champ Brock Lesnar has become a MMA? Maybe we will see him in the UFC someday. The guy is 6'4", 295 lbs. and solid as a rock. He was also an amateur NCAA National Champion in the about 6 years back. It seems these NCAA amateur wrestlers make pretty good MMA fighters. Maybe he can whoop up on Sylvia someday.

Lesnar is supposed to Fight on may 19 th of this year for pride I think. If no one has seen him lately he got a tat that is supposed to like a sword but looks more like a male member than a sword on his chest.

I hope Randy takes Silvia but he has struggled with big guys in the past and few are bigger than Silvia . As awkward as Silvia's style of fighting is he is effective and he has gotten better since he has been training under Miletich .I know Randy is in shape and at one time he would have hammered Silvia or at least broke one of his limbs but I am not so sure now is the right time for Randy to be able to win this.
I'd love to see it happen though.

Matt Hughes please retire
this is just an open letter to Matt Hughes --plz retire!!
go into coaching, running a gym, whatever, just get out while you still have some diginity.
Pierre destroyed him like Fedor did to Coleman, with skill.
I realize that Hughes is a monster!!! but the fighting style has passed him by and it's all down hill from here =(

Gee, thanks guys. I didnt know there was a PPV on tonight...there goes $40
Ive been busy with things lately and havent been catching UFC on(is it still on spike weekly or no?). BUt I LOVE the UFC, plus I have nothing planned tonight.
I hate shelling out $40 though.....esp when it seems they have one a month these days.

Dude, that statement is absurd. I am no MH fan, but he is in his prime. I think he could beat GSP 4 out of 5 times. MH is a machine and will have the title again before long.

yea i thought matt was just off that night. i mean he destroyed gracie and beat everybody else that he faced for a long time. matt is far from washed up. imhp. in mma nobody goes undefeated forever. there are just to many things to defend against. sooner or later you will get caught by something and have to tap or get ko'ed. pull up the very best fighters records and see who they may have lost to.

that is what i mean. Gracie, on day 1. WOW! but the fight has evolved and his style is ineffective.
MH is a monster ground and pounder. But the tactician approach, such as with Pierre, is the future fighter. IMO Maybe he can prove me wrong?
- and he is a great competitor - so that would be awesome. I just don't see him being able to surmount the skills with brutality. Do they have a Round III planned? I would pay $40 for that!
