We did have a similar issues of 'water' coming from under the toilets and up in the showers/tubs, but we snaked it and just found a tree root got into the exit pipe.

Hope you set your calendar to auger that bad boy once every 6-8 months, so it doesn't backup again. I asked the city to which direction my drain pipe went and cut down both those Mo-f*cking trees in the front yard. I'm not playing games, didn't like those trees anyway LOL. We had the pipe checked again 10 months later and they pulled nothing out

Yeah, luckily it's near a cleanout so I can easily check on it, but I'm trying to convince the wife that we need to cut that dumb tree down anyway. It's a small (trashy) River Birch, so it won't be too bad. We have some monster oak trees in the back yard, but luckily they're far far away from the plumbing.

Right out of high school I worked with a plumber for a couple months. Learned just enough to get by and do most of my own work but found employment elsewhere after watching a guy with years of experience get a face/mouthful of actual crap.

The less-bad news is that the basement is unfinished and it was the first floor going into the basement. If it had been second floor bathroom down into under what's under it...dear God. It did literally happen in the least-bad part of the whole house for this to happen, in terms of what was below it all where the water went.

But that's still a bit of floor and sub floor and some insulation (basement ceiling is insulated walls are not) and probably some of the common walll between these two bathrooms. And my poor lifting platform, it's definitely done, and holding a lot of that water in and under it. That's going to be fun to take apart and trash. So so glad I used screws only no adhesive right now

That's really bad luck, particularly at this time of year, I hope it doesn't impact too much on your festive plans.

Looking on the positive side, from a contractors point of view, this appears to be an internal issue, with no back up from the public sewer, so the likelihood of any serious contamination should be minimal, possibly the greatest source of any contaminants would come from the drain off from your washing machine, I suspect much of the leakage would be reasonably clean water, whilst this is awful, believe me it's not as bad as flood water or the back up from a public sewer system.

So, the one plumber we got a hold of showed up at like 8 this morning. Husband/wife team who have three kids. Only guy we were able to contact last night that would come out today, as of what we could set up last evening. Even they wouldn't have come out tomorrow if it was tonight instead of last night so that's pretty big. Plumbing was only non-functional about 14 hours and it was overnight. That auger or whatever you call the thing in this application really worked hard to clear that, but it's clear.

BRB disinfecting whole house, afraid to know what I find here when I start pulling ceiling insulation etc (now that I can shower at home afterwards), thinking about the fact that toilet backup flowed down our HVAC ducts...just lol

My wife and I were supposed to be out of town for the weekend but our plans changed and we came home a day early. My wife walked in on our 18 year old daughter having sex with 2 guys at the same time. Our daughter is not aware that this happened since my wife quickly walked out and we got in the car and drove away.

Our daughter has always been a great kid. Good grades, no drug or drinking issues. Played sports in high school. She's going to a local university and often stays at our house and we love seeing her. She broke up with her long time boyfriend right after classes started in August. We knew that she was having sex with the prior boyfriend so we are not prudes but we are worried about her encounter with two guys. STD's and pregnancy are of course a concern but our biggest issue is how to handle this particular encounter and behavior.

Since this happened a week ago my wife and I have been arguing about how to handle it. Any suggestions from other parents.

If there is a better subreddit to post this, please let me know.

Update: This is more of an issue with my wife and she is looking for ideas on how to approach this. I told her our daughter is an adult and can make these choices while my wife wants us to have this huge intervention with her. I think the intervention is a huge mistake. I'm trying to find out if there is some middle ground here. We have never spoken to our daughter about ground rules now that she is an adult. In high school we have rules but these don't really apply now that she is over 18.

Update 2: I'm spending the morning with my daughter while my wife is out with friends. I have decided to talk with her about the situation. Since I experimented at her age in a similar situation without regrets about it I feel I have some positive perspective on it. I want to make sure she's doing it for the right reasons and not out of attention or by being pressured. Safety is a concern too. My wife is determined to go nuclear on her later today so I want to discuss it with my daughter first. While I'm going to go through my concerns about safety and her motivation for what she's doing. I want her to know she's loved and that we care for her and to state some house rules. Thank you for all the ideas and advice. My mindset is parenting doesn't stop at 18 and her safety and happiness are my biggest concern.

Update 3 - Conversation with my daughter: I spoke to my daughter this morning and it went better than I expected. I honestly don't know how my wife is going to speak to her about it. My wife knows I was going to have this conversation and I'm hoping that me having the conversation first will help to defuse the situation a lot or at least some. My daughter was understandably mortified that we knew and that my wife saw anything happen. My daughter was not aware that we had come home and was very apologetic and embarrassed.

Once we got past that, we were able to talk about safety and other things. She was indeed safe and I was at least happy to hear that this encounter took place with her ex-boyfriend and another friend of theirs versus two guys she might have just met. She said her ex and her have been in a FWB situation since breaking up and that last weekend was her second threesome with them. She doesn't know if she will do it any more but she said she wants to continue to see her ex-boyfriend casually. (They are going to school about 2 hours apart)

We talked about boundaries and she said she made a mistake doing it openly in the den. I am quite sure she will never have sex in a place she can be discovered again. She was very embarrassed and is concerned what her mother now thinks of her. I told how her much we love her and wanted her to always be able to come to me. About 20 minutes after our conversation she told me how much she loved me and thanked me for showing how much I cared about her and not judging her. Not a dry eye in the place. I hope that I can now convince my wife not to condemn her for this but to realize it's part of growing up. I need to remind my wife how mortified her own mom was when she caught her giving a blow job to her boyfriend when she was in high school and how her reaction put a dent in their relationship for a long time.

Thank you for all your help and feedback on this. I realize now that this community is so sex positive which is not necessarily a bad thing. Almost all of the comments on here were productive in nature trying to help and I appreciate that. Your comments helped me to think through a way to approach this in the best way possible for our family. Thank you!
